I purchased ULTIMATE-WINGS from Renderosity; the wings are very good, but I got a strange problem. Every time I compose a scene, the wings appear in the document window without any anomaly. Afterwards I apply a texture to each wing, that is I select the right one and apply the MAT_UW to it, then I select the left one and apply the MAT_UV again. Lastly I render the scene. **But when the render is finished, the two wings appear with different textures!** I tried all the textures of the package, but the left and right wings are always different! This problem occurs only with these wings, independently from any other parameter. This is really a misfortune, as the wings themselves are a superb realization. **I wrote 2 times to the author of the wings, sharkey@cybergate-corp.ch, but I never had an answer!**

Can anyone give me some suggestion?

This is very strange indeed, I also have these wings but don't have the problem of the textures mis-applying. I wonder if the MAT file got slightly corrupted or something? I'd suggest first re-installing the entire product, see if that helps. If not, there may be a reference error in the MAT file that you're using. You can open in Notepad or a similar text editor and check all the reference paths. It should be very easy to correct it and type in the correct texture and path, assuming that's the issue. You might also try contacting Sharkey via Instant Message here at Renderosity. It's my understanding that merchants are required to offer technical support when asked for it, but being human, they sometimes go on vacations, have ISP problems, or don't stop by here too frequently. :-) Best of luck, these wings really are spectacular.

Wouldn't MAT_UW and MAT_UV refer to different things (such as order of colors)? Why not try applying MAT_UW to both wings? I also wonder why you would have to apply 2 mats to one pair of wings. I really don't like MATs, and usually don't bother to install them, but simply load in the required texture in the Render > materials window. If I was using a MAT to apply wing color, I'd expect one MAT to operate across both wings. So why don't you try that? If all else fails... you can load the texture via the material window. carolly

First of all, MAT_UV is a typo; there are only "UW" Mats, like "MAT_UW_Eagle".
Second, in the Material window the JPGs for the textures are correct (and the same) for both wings, like "Eagle_Feathers_Texture.jpg".
I reinstalled the package, but nothing new. The problems is still the same!

I went again to the Ultimate Wings page on marketplace. This is the 3rd image. What does the sentence "all feathers had for left and right side a different material" mean?

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 29 February 2004 at 4:04 AM

Argon: That refers to the "outside" and "inside" of each wing, since bird feathers have different appearances depending on if you're viewing the inner or outer side. It doesn't help explain the problem you're having. There is a MAT_UW_Eagle and a MAT_UW_wEagle which could be confused at a quick glance. When you check the material editor, are both of those textures loaded perhaps? Carolly - "I also wonder why you would have to apply 2 mats to one pair of wings." Each wing is a separate model, so texture needs to be applied to each wing separately.

Can you show the Material Room set up for the same material on the left wing and right wing: for example, select the bottom, outer feathers of each wing. Maybe Poser 5 is applying the textures incorrectly on the right wing.

Argon sent you a mail earlier today. I loaded everything the way you've done it, but i wasn't abble to locate your problem. In my render everything was going the way it had to go (see image). About the inner- and outer-materials Varian explained it exactly how i realised in the wings see image=> outer-feathers blue/inner-feathers red). And the MAT-Pose applyes to any material the same texture as you also can see by the screenshot of the Pose-file. No changing of material-colors or anything else. I'm very sorry, but i really have no idea why this happens. May it's a misfortune for you what i can understand, but for me it looks more to a poser internal problem then a product problem. What i can do is to save my CR2's with the applyed textures and send it to you by mail. Just let me know.

Richard Hazeltine, of the DAZ Forum Team, said:
I suspect you are suffering because you use Poser 5, which doesn't work well with partial MAT files, those that change only some of the settings. You may need to change the textures by hand, then use use Mat Pose Edit 3 to create new, Poser 5-friendly, MAT files.
About the courtesy to send the CR2's, could you send me the 2 wings with all the 4 MATs (MAT_UW_Eagle, MAT_UW_W Eagle, MAT_UW_White and MAT_UW_NoBump?

Dont know if this is the problem. Have created CR2-files for booth different textures and sent them to you by mail.
