Just a scene i'm messing with, I was gonna enter it into the contest but it evolved in a different way. I need some advice on what to do, what it needs? Maybe it's just a dead scene, but I don't think it's nearly complex enough for gallery stuff... The first is the last version I posted, the second is the one I just rendered. Thanks for checking it out!

I love it except for the fir trees. IMHO the texture on the terrain works better without the trees, they're over-egging the pudding :o] $0.02

I like the first one..love that sunset light. Do agree with pogmahone on the trees though.

Hi first off very atmospheric second thank you! some time ago I created a map for the aldara project at rndna which had an inland sea with an island almost the same as this and I've been wondering how to create the scene. You've just shown me how. brilliant!! Dave

Aye, I'm gonna have to bring this scene up as a different thread. The volumetrics stopped working... Far as I can tell it's a Bryce error, but the way things are going the last render I had was all I'm gonna get. The idea is that the line of the vlumetric ray guides your eyes through the scene in a diagonal, nearly book-like fashion. I don't know how well it worked. In the top image, the tower/laser structure is straight, 90 degrees to the ground plane. In the newer, second one, I tilted the tower and laser array to hopefully draw one's eyes along the diagonal, better.... Back soon with the error, hopefully it can be fixed.

Well, I like the second one much more than the first. The only thing that I don't care for is the angle of the laser thingie. I like that it's tilted and not square to the world, but I think it could be a little less extreme. And I agree about the trees too, especially the foreground one. The background aren't as noticable. Other than that? This is way cool! Looks like a book illustration or something. I'm wondering tho'...as small as the water area is, would there be waves crashing on the shore of the island? And, if it is, shouldn't there be some on the rest of the shoreline? Artistic license is a good answer if you want! :o)

I think the tower is tilted too far, too. Something that important would have been built much sturdier. I think you have a conflict of scale going on. Based on the trees in the foreground, the water area looks too small to have those waves and the mountains look more like hills. Based on the size of the mountains, the trees in the foreground look too big.

I agree with what everyone has said! The trees DO throw off the scale, and are gone now... The tilt I left alone, but i'll try another render where it's straight. This is the latest Bryce render, sans trees, and with a few new volumetric goodies. I agree, I need waves/spray along the rest of the shoreline. I'll add that, and try putting the tower straight.... More news at 11.

Yeah, i like that much more. How about some tilt but not so much? Actually, now i can't tell it's tilted until i tilt my head. Interesting. I love being able to see the detail on the tower.
