Subject: No more Apophysis??

locomouse ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2004 at 7:38 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 11:39 AM

I downloaded Beta 15 from Apophysis.org on Sunday and have been dabbling in it since then. This morning I tried to launch the program and I get only a window telling me it has expired and to download a newer version. However, Apophysis.org has been unavailable since yesterday.

Does anyone know what's happened to the site? Do all of the earlier versions expire after a few days?

It may just be that I haven't had enough coffee yet... but I'm a little confused about all this... lol!

The site is available now. I couldn't download myself for some hours but all is well now. Beta 16 version is now available. Just before a beta version is due to expire an updated beta is available to be downloaded. If you are subscribed to the mailing list then you will be notified of these changes. Fran

Thanks so much for your response, Fran. I was trying to subscribe to the mailing list yesterday but the site was not available. It's not available now, either. www.apophysis.org brings up a Go Daddy page saying that it is coming soon.... I'll keep trying, though. Will the flames we've saved in the earlier version be available in the new Beta? Meaning, I guess, does the new beta install over the old one and everything is still in the folder? Thanks again for your help, Helen

I think it is recommendin uninstalling the old before installing the new version. So to be safe, save a copy of your files and see if they still are there after the installation.

Thanks, gunsan! I've taken your advice and copied my saved flames to another folder. Is there a different URL for downloading the new beta?

gunsan ( ) posted Wed, 10 March 2004 at 8:22 AM

If you go to Apophysis.org the link is there http://www.apophysis.org/a2beta.html

Thanks ever so much! :)

Yes, you need to uninstall the old version...this is very important. Really all that does it to remove the old .dll files. Everything else will be safe in the same folders you have them in now.

Thank you, tresamie. Of course, I saved the wrong files before I uninstalled the old version... mostly because I'm not yet familiar on the whole saving business in APO. Saved myself a nice bunch of .jpegs but none of my flame files... lol! Live and learn! ;)

Get on the apo beta mailing list and you'll have access to the legitimage beta 15b

gradient ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2004 at 12:21 AM

Judging from the mailing list emails (over 70+ emails today), it looks like v16 may have many more bugs than v15. I too have lost functionality of v15....but I think I may stay on the sidelines till a more stable version comes out.... Oh well....back to Terragen.

For me the new beta crashes most of the time I try a rendering :-(

EricofSD ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2004 at 1:25 AM

er, I said 15b and meant 16b

Hi Eric, I'm on the mailing list and I have the new version installed. The bugs? Yeah, they're that big... and there's an army of them... ;) I keep hearing William Hung singing "She crashes! She crashes!"... lol! Ah, well... for the price we're paying it's all good... :)

Cyble13 ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2004 at 1:39 PM

All the betas after beta 5 are time bombed to quit working after 30 days.So far no problems, except with gradient color abnormalities with beta 16b.Must be a WIN XP thing...Im using WIN ME and have had very very few problems with any of the betas.Hopefully Mark will get things sorted and release a new beta shortly.Poor fella probably gets no rest, keeping us "apo-addicts" etertained. ;))

tresamie ( ) posted Thu, 11 March 2004 at 1:49 PM

Mark did warn everyone through the list that this new beta (16b) would be very buggy because there are lots of new goodies to be BETA TESTED. That's why it's called a beta, lol. It makes life more interesting. Join the list (get a new freeby email account from somewhere...yahoo, hotmail, since the list will generate lots of mail!) You will find workarounds and lots of miserable company there, lol :)

Well I'm knocking on wood as I type but I love this new beta!! It's a tad quirky especially with the gradients and some of the scripts. But I can play in it with no problem...when I'm using the adjust window or the editor I see the changes in the preview window almost instantly...with the last beta there was such a long lag time! I only render wallpaper size for me but it hasn't crashed on me at all and I do multiple renders with other stuff working. I find the finished renders to have brighter colors and a crisper image...anyway, I'm having alot of fun! ;o)
