Subject: Need Guru Help!

Recently I have purchased Poser5 (Mac edition). I have read the manual and have done a lot of experimenting. So far it seems to work well enough. Yesterday I started to work with the "face room" and got along with it quite well but did run into a problem. I cannot seem to get "eyelashes to appear on the final render. I can see the transparency dots around the eyes before rendering but the lashes to not appear when rendered. I checked the manual again with no results and have fooled around with different combinations of settings in the material room. Still no lashes. The Mac edition is only up to SR3 and I know most of the PC users are up to SR4. Might that be the reason? If not, is there anyone out there who can help me solve this problem? I would really appreciate your help on this issue. I do not seem to have this problem using a Daz figure without the "face room". Thank you, jayhawk

Do you have a transparency map applied to the figure's eyelashes?

Yes Karen I do. I have tried all kinds of combinations with the lashes. As I said, I can see the transparency dots before I render but can see no lashes at all after it is rendered. I have them colored as black right now but have tried all different colors, including texture strength. It is quite frustrating because there is no info in the manual at all. I cannot find anything on CL website either. Thanks for the reply. If you can think of anything else, I would appreciate it.

If you remove the transmap and set the transparency value to zero, do the lashes render solid? What I'm getting at is, are they there at all? Also, try rendering with the P4 renderer and see if that makes a difference.

Make sure you have a transparency map applied, in the material room make sure the node for transparency is connected and a map name is specified. It sounds as if you have the transparency set but no map specified which would make the eyelashes invisible at render time.

Also, make certain you have the proper transmap applied. A P4 Male transmap won't work properly on Don, for instance, since the lashes are on a different part of the map.

Thank you for all of your help. Karen and the rest...First I made the face in the face room and applied it to the Judy model. Hence, in the material room I worked with that, ignoring the original head. Thinking about it,I gave the original head the same settings as the other one. Now, in rendering in P4 settings I get "nubs" where the eyelashes should be but in firefly I still get nothing. Now, if I could find a way to lengthen them I might have the problem partially solved. Is there something I should look for in the firefly settings? I did try setting to zero and I do get a solid, so it does indicate that the lashes are still there and yes I did check to see if the transpariency was selected properly. Thanks to all for taking the time to make suggestions. jayhawk

Have a look at your material settings for the eyelash material. They should look like this (with the default Judy texture). Try deleting the trans map and loading a new one. Sometimes P5 seems to "blank out" maps and just refuses to load them. Happens to me when I've been working on a long session with lots of material changes.
