"I think there arnt enough average grimy people" Most of us are u p to our eyballs in "average grimy people" or is that average slimy peopleso we like seeing the mythological. BUTyou have a pointthere are very few with real character showing. Now wyrwulf's fellow has characterhe's not pretty, but there is something there that's more than vanilla good looks. Real beauty comes from within. My wife is one of the most beautiful women on earth, but not even in contention for best looking (except in my eyes) . Tom Selleck has always been a good looking fellowwhat makes him stand out is that his character, or elements of it, show through the good looks. I think what you really miss is the character. Without the elements of character, 'tis just another pretty/ugly/average face.

Check out ernyoka's gallery. She does wonderful characters. And Beth (capsces) has two sets of fantastic, very individual "non-prettified" original morph packages for V2 and M2, Boris and Roxanne. I use them more than I use any others -- they're my default male and female figures. Combining a few of Beth's morphs will give you a character that doesn't look like anyone else's.

All my characters are base on real live personalities I know. But I must admit they are some of the best looking and nicest individuals. I guess its time to bring out all my ugly thugs and criminals. :-)

Wait until April, and there will be a few "un-polished" people (texture sets)being released at DAZ. I have been working the last few months on character sets like this, They are not "dirty", but do have a nice "gritty realism" If you are looking for a pretty grimey guy though...feel free to check out my "Davey Jones Ghost" at DAZ....he is definatly not clean LOL Rawn

Here's one I just posted to my gallery. I'm getting quite fond of making ugly people in Poser. 8) Catlin

There are a lot of people pushing the envelope with Poser and creating photo-realistic characters. I think the main constituent to making real looking people is the introduction of inperfections so that they look like a person you can easily on the street. That having been said many people are trying to use Poser to express fantasy or idealized "beautiful" human forms--so I can't fault people for not making their images "gritty". How many truly homely people have you seen in the average commercial or Hollywood production? One of my bones of contention with Poser has always been, however, that they have made it difficult to create less than beautiful people. Creating realistic fat people was a real challenge using just the tools that Poser 4 and below provided and if you could create such characters clothing them was even more difficult with so-called "conforming" clothes that simply wouldn't conform. Beauty is very subjective, and consequently a lot of my Renderotica offerings have not illicited much comment because I've created pics with men that were not the perfectly morphed muscle Micheal.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Thu, 01 April 2004 at 6:08 PM

We are all imperfect to varying degrees and more of that imperfection should be allowed and welcomed in Poser artwork me thinks. I'm certainly not a perfect image of humanity and where I live I've not seen many, if any, perfect people. Mind you that may be because there are no plastic surgeons nearby. lol 8) Catlin

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Fri, 02 April 2004 at 12:08 PM

I'd suggest that small imperfections are an essential to a realistic image. Those perfect people on fashion photographs depend on skilled make-up artists, and there can be a lot of safety-pins holding the clothes on the hidden side. Some very slight lack of symmetry also looks more real. Like a lot of stuff, it's the small things that matter.
