Subject: Joint Parameters Mirror script anyone?

Does it exist a script that will allow you to set up the joint parameters of a Poser figure on one side and mirror the other side? I'm setting the JP on a set of clothes I modelled and its a lot of work, specially with the envelopes and all. Being able to cut in half the work this way would be great.

Symmetry - left to right or right to left?

Providing that your groups follow the "l" & "r" nomenclature (lThigh, rThigh, lShldr, rShldr etc), you can use the built in Poser menu command Figure/Symmetry with the joint parameter option.

Thanks for your help. Yes, I'm using conventional naming. Does it copies everything? I'm working with Poser 5 but I want to keep compatibility with version 4. Is there any thing I should be careful with.

Yes it copies all the jointing and no there should not be any compatability issues with Poser 4

Thanks PhilC, I just went thru the Editing Joint Parameters part of your CD and it helped me understand envelopes. Is there a way to make unselectable the figure you are trying to conform the clothes to as far as display of its joint parameters. I keep adjusting parameters and then have to undo because I was working with the figure instead of the clothes. Also is it me or sometimes Poser will stop giving you feedback and you will have to dial a pose to see if the change you did fixed the pokethru.

Only by hiding the figure, but that wont really help you. I just had to develop the habit of making sure I had the right figure selected. Sometimes making your selection from the Hierarchy window can help. I too have found that the joint editor needs the occasional kick. I usually just open and close the editor, if that fails I save and restart Poser.

Thanks. Another question. If you find out that certain polygons might work better as part of another group, say maybe they belong to the hip but now you think they might work better as part of one buttock group, is there a way you can chage this inside Poser whitout having to return to your modeer and recut the whole figure?

you can reassign to your hearts content in the set up room...I with the group editor would do it but alas :)

To adress your problem of working with the character instead of the clothes : Before importing the character in Poser, open the cr2 in a text editor and, for each bodypart you feel you might risk selecting by mistake, set the "hidden" value to 1 instead of the default 0. This will prevent you from selecting the character in the work window or from the part list, but you can still select it via the hierachy editor, should you need to.

Thank you, compiler I'll try this >>you can reassign to your hearts content in the set up room...I with the group editor would do it but alas :)>> odeathoflife, I reassigned vertices in the setup room, that's exactly what I wanted to do. Thank you. The room did ungroup some of my poligons by itself which was weird, but I was able to reassign the stray polygons to their respective groups. Hope this weird behavior might be due to that the original grouping wasn't done in Poser but in 3D Studio and is not something that repeats by going in and out of the setup room.
