Subject: Weld vs. Link and UVMapper vs. Carrara 3's uvedit

ominousplay ( ) posted Sat, 10 April 2004 at 3:09 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 2:01 PM

I am creating 1/2 of a model in vertex medeler, then duplicating with symetry, then linking the two, vertex by vertex. I tried welding and came out with a crease or ridge that I wouldn't seem to smooth. What do other people do for this? I've seen some great models in the Carrara Gallery. Also, I've got a question about models with clothing... If I model a human, the add clothe, how would I animate with a skeleton? Should it be one mesh, with the clothing and the human mesh as one? Last question: I'm just beginning to use Carrara's uveditor. I've used UVMapper for some time and I'd just like to know what people thought of the two.

A reply to myself, how lame is that? :) I played around and found if I duplicate one half of a model (symetric) and then sellect the two sides I'd like to join, then just LOFT... ugh. I don't know how many times I've linked each vert. I'm such a dork. I guess I like doing things the hard way. Rs.

I've used UVMapper Pro quite a bit and I think it's superior to Cararra's UV mapping tool. - Bill

For joining 2 halfs a use weld, loft, and link depending on the circumstance. I find that sometimes loft doesn't connect the 2 halfs correctly. I think that it might have to do with the order in which the points are selected. I have been going to test that but haven't found the time. I also have UVMapper Pro and agree with yolkworm. It is better. Keith

I use Ultimate Unwrap www.unwrap3d.com . It isreally good, although I think it could do with a few improvements. The free version (Lithunwrap) is quite good too http://files.seriouszone.com/download.php?fileid=198 . I opened the Carrara UV Mapper a few times and realised very quickly that it was not upto the task of mapping serious models. I rarely touch it. I think it is definately one of the things that needs a serious overhaul for version 4.
