I just got it an hour ago and it'll be available within hours. In fact, I just received the PC letter about it. Anyway, it installed ultra-fast, found all my poser content and works great. Seems totally stable and is a big improvement on the alpha. Quite a few things have been fixed and enabled in this build. Obviously, it's still a beta and is still under constuction, but it's already halfway there. Here's 3 pics of a stairway. The first one is in DS with the default light. mac

This is DS with the lights imported from poser

This is in poser with the same lights

Obviously, there's a color difference here, and being used to poser, I'd say the 3rd pic looks best. But it's difficult to judge. For example, I reduced the intensity of the poser lights in DS by 20% because the settings were way too bright. Also, this is the 3delight renderer. You have a choice of that or open GL and I haven't tried it yet. Couple of good things. Jpegs can be saved automatically without typing in extensions and when you close DS, it now asks if you want to save the scene (as a .daz file). Must play some more with it tomorrow. mac

How did you get it to work??? I have been trying and after it makes me load all the textures manually it refused to load the scene.

Yeah, I got the same as martian. It can't find the textures by itself (using the special DS free content DAZ provided, not Poser stuff) then when you've held its hand all the way through finding the textures nothing shows up. I can make it load some Poser content but most stuff doesn't seem to work.

The daz content installed itself to the wrong folder. go to the second content folder and move everything up one layer to the first content folder and the daz stuff will work. As far as the rest of the stuff, it works perfectly so far with my regular poser content.

Dallas

Nice. Id say the first pic looks best/closest to realistic. The poser pic is dull and a little cartoony (yeah, thats a word! lol). D|S doesnt look like it likes the imported lights, or it didnt import their intensity properly, or maybe its just poser not properly interpreting the lights in the first place?? Have you experimented any more with that?

maclean ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 3:00 PM

I did a lot of experimenting with the alpha and to be quite honest, I reckon it's unrealistic to expect to import poser lights and have them work exactly the way they do in poser. With the alpha, I ended up doing all the lighting inside DS. It's a 'diiferent' lighting system to poser's. In some ways, far better, in other, not so easy (at least, not so easy to get used to, anyway). The point lights in DS are terrific. Finally, we can make a light bulb actually work by just clicking on a point light and positioning it inside the bulb. Re the content thing - There seems to have been some problem with the installer adding an extra content directory. You just need to empty the content sub-folder into the content folder itself and it works. I didn't download any content, so I didn't have this problem. Another oddity I've found is that when I apply a MAT file, nothing changes.... until I move a camera or something in the doc window, then the change appears. Small bug, I guess. mac

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 8:21 AM

OK How did you get her into studio? there are no humans paced with it and so far I have got an error every time I thy to open anything from my Poser Runtime - it says it's not a suported format. Also I am wondering.. why do they pack loads of clothes and hair and props and scenes.. but no human characters? Or am I missing something? I've downloaded all the zips related to D|S but there are no humans inside :-(

ernyoka, When you install DS, it asks if you want to link a poser Runtime to it. Just pick the drive your Runtime is on and let it search. If you've already installed, there's a way to do it, but I honestly can't remember it now. If you're still stuck, I can check at DAZ for you. mac

Yeah.. I know mac. After all I've been using this since the first alpha ;o) However I DID find a solution, I forgot about this thread *duh* or I) would have posted it earlier... See, when you install the beta on top of an alpha it tells you that it now will delete the old alpha to avoid any problems (Can't remember the actual wording) But the point is that it DOESN'T! All my old alpha content was still present, down to the egyptians and the doggie, only with a notice that the old alpha content couldn't be used anymore :o/ Ah well, I then removed Daz Studio from my computer (in the add/remove programs) and then manually deleted the DazDS folder, which curiously enough had stayed there. So much for uninstall, heh.. I thin reinstalled DS. Even more curious, it did STILL remember where I used to keep it (on my P: drive) so I let it install there and whaddayaknow..it even still knew about the previous searche for content! Well I told it to start all over on the search (I actually DID that the first time too) and this time it works! I can now access my Poser files! :o) So I'm mostly happy. But I must admit I am ANNOYED after I've downloaded megabyte after megabyte of clothes (using a LOT of my fixed bandwidth limit) Only to find out that Daz in their wisdom did in fact NOT supply me with any CHARACTERS to put that clothes on :o( Sure now I can import my Poser versions of M3 and V3, but the DS-clothes just can't conform (or "fit" as DS calls it) to Poser characters :o( So all the clothes are USELESS. At first I thought it was an error that I hadn't got the characters, but I had 2 friends download the lot too and they had no humans either... But at least it works now :o) I just think it's slower than EVER.. the sliders are close to unresponsive and it takes ages to switch body part by clicking on them.. The alphas were better (the last alpha didn't work for me at ALL, but the others did) - at least they were faster :o/ I never thought I'd refer to Poser 5 as FAST, but it is.. compared to everything in DS...

ernyoka, Glad you got it going. I didn't bother with any content, so I have no idea about it. But I did read a thread at DAZ from someone complaining BITTERLY about how slow the rendering was. He/she was advised to re-install and apparently the difference in speed was amazing. I hate to suggest re-installing again, but it might work. Mine runs just fine and renders pretty fast. mac

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 5:08 PM

OK :-) It can't harm to reinstall I guess :o) I'll try that tomorrow

Rendering is a bit slow, but since you dont have to render to do all your posing and texturing and lighting adjustments, over all you save time. For me it is quite acceptable since I am used to the slow render times with bryce. As others have said, use the horizontal rendering rather then the circular one as it seems to be the least slow of all of them.

Warmest Regards,

Dallas

It was mentioned in another post that Daz has released a LE Mike, Vicky, and mil girls in their free section. Although as I'm checking in Daz Studio to be sure it works I don't have anything under runtime/Daz people like I should. And of course, now I can't use the Egyptian Mike/Vicky. However, since I have Poser on another computer... I didn't have Daz Studio look for any runtimes when I installed it. Maybe that's why it's not showing? Although I did add the runtime content in Daz. Hmm???

The only thing I don't procrastinate is procrastinating. That I do right away.

Hey:-

I justed did this picture in DAZ Studio tonight but it take me some time to figure out how to get the textures to appear and the Transparents right, the only problem I have at this time is how to put a background in.
