Subject: D/S content in Poser?

steve_g ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2004 at 7:50 AM · edited Sat, 11 January 2025 at 10:59 AM

Is D/S content (for example the Temple Ruins free download) different from the non D/S content of the same name? If it is, in the future if I buy D/S content can it be converted for use in Poser? It looks like Poser content can be used in D/S with no problem... so if content is in different formats, is a D/S format better in any way? Thanks! Steve

Yes, the Daz Studio Content is in a D/S only format so it cant be used in poser. It is in a .daz format useable only by Daz Studio. It is the same content as the other poser items by the same name.

Warmest Regards,

Dallas

Thanks, I thought that would be the case. I hope D/S content developers will still produce Poser versions. I guess a D/S importer for Poser would be a good feature for a next Poser release.... Steve

And when you install the Beta version and let it delete you alpha version as it suggest, you loose the previous D/S freebies - the Egyptian stuff.

i beleve that the reason the free contient for daz|studio is in .daz format is so that it is only useable on D|S so if you want to use the product to its fullest capasity in the normal poser file types you have to accualy buy the item p.s. the dragon cant close its mouth LOL

Actually, the DAZ content is even more limited - it is stated that the content will cease to work after a while. DAZ already mentioned that they will include some kind of DRM, so they can give away freebies that work only for a certain time. Since Poser don't offer such capabilities, they probably will not support an poser importer for DAZ-Files since that would make the DRM obsolete. But DRM can make sense here. Imagine a TRY-BEFORE-BUY-solution, where you can test D|S-Models for a day or two before you actually have to buy them. Just my two cents, Uwe

the .daz format is what will keep me from ever switching from Poser unless they include a way to convert it. Bad PR move of Daz's part, this will only irritate and anger people.

Oooh not keen on that concept...Use our product and nothing else. Most artist like to use a wide range of packages to get to the image they want so making an import/export facility for Poser would seem to be an obvious move.

bantha ( ) posted Fri, 16 April 2004 at 6:36 AM

You can get every Model from DAZ as a poser model - unrestricted, because you cannot retrict poser models. But DAZ can restrict .DAZ-Models obviously. The Content delivered with the beta is Time-Limited and works only up to May 10th. If you could export it as poser content, the time-bomb would be removed. This is probably noct what DAZ wanted to do.

It would be much better though if they did have an "export to poser files".
