Incredibly buggy.

dr_archimedes ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 8:09 AM

As a student I have to admit I'm mostly impressed with the pricetag :p It is a great app though. I've been playing with it for a couple of days now and the only major wonk I've found is a slight glitching on the GUI. It dosn't like using openGL with my nVidia card either. Also it dosn't seem to export models yet. As a bonus, DAZ have released free versions of Vicktoria2 Michael2 and Millenium girls! :D I never thought I'd be able to afford to move into character sculpting for my scenes but thanks to DAZ I can :D I must say I'm very happy with D|S. Chuffed to bits in fact.

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 10:49 AM

Where are the free versions of Victoria2 Michael2 and Millenium girls?

dr_archimedes ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 11:01 AM

The freestuff area. It surprised me too. Follow the archive link and it coughs up an entire pages' worth of content. Mostly add-on faffery but the redistributable characters are in there.

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 11:20 AM

Great, thank you.

pakled ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 1:20 PM

yeah..it's a hefty download though, some of the files are 10's of megs..;) but whaddaya want for free?..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

anahl nathrak uth vas betude doth yel dyenvey..;)

MachineClaw ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 1:50 PM

The free archive files for Mike 2, vicki2, and the mil girls are just the redistrutable cr2 files, not the products themselves. The Daz Studio content that is in daz studio format was the temple ruins the mil dragon and clothing for mike3 and vicki3. renderer is too bright and funky for me, I'll wait til next weeks version and see what's been fixed played with. no time to hack all the bugs and report them unfortunatly.

SKondris ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 4:04 PM

The best place to get free copies of Michael and Victoria are off the cover of certain 3d magazines, such as 3DWorld and Computer Arts, the reduced resolution versions have been offered through them in the past. Have a great weekend, Steve

dr_archimedes ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 6:36 PM

What's in a CR2 file exactly? I'm new to this as you may have guessed :) I'm sharing a computer here that I know for a fact used to have a ripped version of poser on it. Since I moved in we've only used legitimate products though. (Truespace, Milkshape, Genesis ect. To be honest the range of free and GNU tools available to artists is overwhelming enough!) When I installed the Victoria cr2, the model appeared in my D|S content folder as a fully useable, textured character. Is that not supposed to happen? Don't get me wrong. I'm not a copyright-law fiend or anything but I do want to be able to distribute my renders publicly in the knowlage that I'm not stealing from someone elses work.

xantor ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 7:58 PM

The cr2 has the bones information for the figure. The location of the textures Morph targets and other stuff.

dr_archimedes ( ) posted Sat, 17 April 2004 at 8:19 PM

Oh well :( From the experience I got from using it tho I'm pretty tempted to shell out the 23 beans or so on Victoria 3 now. Meshes of people in action really do seem to bring certain scenes to life. I'd quite like to explore that some more.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sun, 18 April 2004 at 8:51 AM

Not wishing to discourage you, but the base V3 doesn't include textures (there are a good few available free) or morphs (which are essential for customising the body and face shape of chacters, though you could start with plain V3 for single figure scenes).

mondoxjake ( ) posted Sun, 18 April 2004 at 7:41 PM

It was a 1-hour 17-min d/l on my dialup connection [no resume d/l software allowed]...but worth it to play around with I guess. I won't bother with anymore updates, will wait until the final goodie hits the net, maybe by then I can afford a larger monitor... 17" is not enough real estate for the program IMO. Not complaining...free is cheap, so if it doesn't work the uninstall button will.

catlin_mc ( ) posted Tue, 20 April 2004 at 6:47 PM

At least things look like they're marching forwards with DS construction and I have every faith that DAZ will fix all those annoying little bugs by the time it's ready to ship. The great thing about the low res versions of Mike and Vicky is that you can download the upgrades for them from their respective product pages at Daz, and that does make quite a difference in their usability. 8) Catlin

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 20 April 2004 at 8:56 PM

Dr archimedes, the free redistributable cr2 files have the rsr with them and that will look like the full figure is there, if you doubleclick on the icon then it will just come up with an error like blmilwom.obj not found

foleypro ( ) posted Tue, 20 April 2004 at 9:26 PM

It all depends on DS,If DS is going and looking for the files and still finds the files in a POSER folder that wasnt wiped out completely,Then DS will find the RIPPED Files on his computer as he stated above.

micca ( ) posted Tue, 20 April 2004 at 10:59 PM

i finely got the beast to work and cr2edit stoped working as well as som custom morphs for v2 aney have a sugestion or 2 ps i think part of my problem is this dell(lol) thanks

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 2:27 AM

Do the custom morphs work in poser? Because they might not work in daz studio. Cr2edit shouldn`t stop working, but maybe it is just an unfortunate coincidence. Maybe you could e-mail the makers of cr2edit and ask them about it?

dr_archimedes ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 10:58 AM

@ Xantor & Foleypro Yeah, looks like it was just a bad uninstall of Poser. I had to kill the folder manually there but all the textures and geometries n stuff were in it. :(

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 12:50 PM

It probably wasnt a bad uninstall,if you uninstall poser it usually doesnt uninstall any figures or textures that have been installed later, which is usually a good thing for people having to reinstall poser.

micca ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 5:42 PM

they stoped working in poser i reimported them and they started working agen thanks for the feed back. the rest i blame on dell

foleypro ( ) posted Wed, 21 April 2004 at 9:16 PM

That is what useally happens....Better this way anyway...
