DAZ|Studio F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 11:14 pm)
As a student I have to admit I'm mostly impressed with the pricetag :p It is a great app though. I've been playing with it for a couple of days now and the only major wonk I've found is a slight glitching on the GUI. It dosn't like using openGL with my nVidia card either. Also it dosn't seem to export models yet. As a bonus, DAZ have released free versions of Vicktoria2 Michael2 and Millenium girls! :D I never thought I'd be able to afford to move into character sculpting for my scenes but thanks to DAZ I can :D I must say I'm very happy with D|S. Chuffed to bits in fact.
The free archive files for Mike 2, vicki2, and the mil girls are just the redistrutable cr2 files, not the products themselves. The Daz Studio content that is in daz studio format was the temple ruins the mil dragon and clothing for mike3 and vicki3. renderer is too bright and funky for me, I'll wait til next weeks version and see what's been fixed played with. no time to hack all the bugs and report them unfortunatly.
What's in a CR2 file exactly? I'm new to this as you may have guessed :) I'm sharing a computer here that I know for a fact used to have a ripped version of poser on it. Since I moved in we've only used legitimate products though. (Truespace, Milkshape, Genesis ect. To be honest the range of free and GNU tools available to artists is overwhelming enough!) When I installed the Victoria cr2, the model appeared in my D|S content folder as a fully useable, textured character. Is that not supposed to happen? Don't get me wrong. I'm not a copyright-law fiend or anything but I do want to be able to distribute my renders publicly in the knowlage that I'm not stealing from someone elses work.
It was a 1-hour 17-min d/l on my dialup connection [no resume d/l software allowed]...but worth it to play around with I guess. I won't bother with anymore updates, will wait until the final goodie hits the net, maybe by then I can afford a larger monitor... 17" is not enough real estate for the program IMO. Not complaining...free is cheap, so if it doesn't work the uninstall button will.
At least things look like they're marching forwards with DS construction and I have every faith that DAZ will fix all those annoying little bugs by the time it's ready to ship. The great thing about the low res versions of Mike and Vicky is that you can download the upgrades for them from their respective product pages at Daz, and that does make quite a difference in their usability. 8) Catlin
