Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
Not sure if I follow you, but it sounds like you think Poser will save the Texture info to the Pose library. If so, that is incorrect. You can not make a MAT pose file by saving a figure to the library. Poser will save only certain information to the library in way of a pose file. This is basically the dial setting infor for the element body part groups but NOT for the Body group (Full Body MORPH dial info, ERC dial info, etc., does not save to the pose library). Scale info (x, y, z scale dials) also does not save. To make a MAT pose file or to save this other information not normally saved by Poser to the library (such as FBM settings) you have to make a special Pose file using either a utility program that is set up to do this or else manually using a text editor and making the pose file by hand.
If you've already got the figure texturized the way you want, I find the easiest thing to do is save the figure to your figures library and then edit the cr2 file into a pz2 file (as shadownet said using a text editor). There are tutorials/info on this around here. But basically you go into your figure library, find where you saved the figure which had the texture you wanted, open the cr2 file for that figure in your text editor, remove everything not related to materials from the file and save it as yourtexturenamehere.pz2. It essentially ends up looking like this (from a MAT I made for a plain white dress shirt for M3 Everyday Wear Adventure Shirt): { version { number 3.02 } figure { material Shirt { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0 0 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 100 ksIgnoreTexture 0 textureMap ":Runtime:Textures:DAZ:Clothing:M3:M3SafariShirtDressShirtWhiteTex.jpg" 0 0 } . . . . material Sleeves { KdColor 1 1 1 1 KaColor 0 0 0 1 KsColor 0 0 0 1 TextureColor 1 1 1 1 NsExponent 100 ksIgnoreTexture 0 textureMap ":Runtime:Textures:DAZ:Clothing:M3:M3SafariShirtDressShirtWhiteTex.jpg" 0 0 } } } The materials generally reside at the bottom of a cr2 file, so you can pretty much delete everything up to where the materials start getting listed in the cr2. Make sure your starting and ending braces match. Hope this helps, Unzipped
This is where I'm getting confused: I've actually done this before with no problems, but this time Poser doesn't seem to be creating a cr2! I've searched my whole Mac for a cr2 corresponding to the figure I created and textured, and one definitely doesn't exist. How do I go about creating a cr2 to drag onto MATconverter? All I have is a pz2.
You need to save the figure - not the pose. It sounds like you're saving to the pose library, rather than the figure library. Make sure you've selected Figures from the selection Pallet. I'd make myself a new group/directory in the Figures library to keep these kinds of figures in - I call mine "My Figures", it's not original but it works. You can do that by choosing the add new category selection at the bottom of the Pallet. Then save your figure to that group/directory by adding the figure. You should end up with a cr2 for the figure in that directory which you can then use in your utility or edit by hand. Hope this helps, Unzipped

Hi all, trying to create MAT files; I open a character (M3), apply my textures, morphs and pose, and save it to my library. If I then open a new character, and try to apply the MAT, only the morphs and pose apply; the textures and bump maps don't seem to have been included in the MAT! Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong? I'm using poser 4 on a MAC.
