Subject: *.vob* associations

I've just loaded up Vue and found that the Vue .vob files are associated as movie clips (I use a ATI multi-media center). Has not caused any problems apart from the fact that if you double click a Vue .vob file it opens my DVD player! Just out of interest does anybody know of this problem? By the way I'm finding Vue as solid as a rock with my ATI graphics card, not one single problem. Great product. Thanks for any info. martin_c

The mpeg files on a DVD have a .vob extension and that is why they have gotten associated with your DVD player. Associations should not affect the function of any program (including Vue), they simply tell the operating system what program to open when you double-click a file.....although you can run into problems with associations with internet related programs and viewers, but not a problem in this situation. Installing new programs (like the DVD player that came with your video card) can reassign your associations.

Wow, that's , uhh, different! I have a DVD player too, and that's never happened. But,".vob" is a Vue "Object", right? Just as clicking on a Wavefront .OBJ file won't automatically open a 3D program though, unless you specifically tell your OS to do so, is that really surprising? You didn't mention your OS, though. I'm using Windows 98 SE, and I know with that you can specify file associations, if you want to. Cheers, Mike

Cheers for the replies lads. I'm running Win98SE as well Mike. You are right Mike (I'm not going mad), I was only trying to explain how the associations had been made by mentioning the clicking of the ".vob" object files. Like I say it hasn't caused any problems, it is just a little disconcerting to look in the Vue d'EspritObject folder with Explorer to find all the files being associated as movie clips. You are right Karlm, if you look on the MPEG files on a DVD they do have the ".vob extension. The reason they are associated with my DVD software is so that a DVD movie will auto-run when I insert it. I would think it's a case of what come first - the Vue ".vob" file or the DVD MPEG Codec. LOL. Cheers, martin_c
