Is there any way to use Vicky in the Poser5 face room ? I always get the message to character is not made for the face room and in the end the characters neck is messed up. thanks Holli

I think the manual says only the P5 figure work with the face room. Only Don and Judy.

The technology is based on the seams, parts and polygons around the neck/head area matching the current P5 figures. Currently there is no compatibility. If you contact FaceGen, they might provide info on what would be involved in making new figures face room compatible.

did Singular Inversions really create face room for Curious Labs?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Tue, 27 April 2004 at 3:56 AM

Well it is their technology, though they may not have done the code to incorportae but yes the tech came from them. I spoke to someone there once and we talked about it. But what P5 does not quite the same as their standard services.

wow thats really interesting, is face room connected to SI photofit process at all?

PheonixRising ( ) posted Tue, 27 April 2004 at 4:05 AM

No I don't think so. The face room , I think, is more like a very distant cousin. I think the Face room is just a unique cousin to the same process. Sorry I don't know more about it.

np TY so much for the info. I've heard this fact mentioned before but you're the first person who had any solid info.

You could look into your P5 manual on the Credits page under Corporate Contributors and you will find Singular Inversions Inc. mentioned.

If you look on Singular Inversions web site, you'll find that they sell an SDK (software development kit) so that programmers can incorporate the FaceGen technology into their own software. I suspect this is how the FaceRoom was started, and that CL added their own twists to it for Poser.

Discussions went on about vicki & Mike being run through the mangler and incorporated into the Face Room while P5 was under development, but CL wanted so much money for the work that DAZ backed out and refused to pay that much. Okay, it costs a fair amount of time to set it all up, but one does wonder whether CL would have been better served of a more friendly attitude at the time. Full compatibility with the Milfigures would have opened things up more for CL and maybe they wouldn't have run straight into the wall soon after P5's release and keeled over. After all, the development of Judy etc was so rushed and so unfinished that the P5 figures simply never got the breakthrough acceptance they could have had. They never had a chance to compete with Vicki et al. The Face Room thing was part of the reason that DAZ decided to go their own way, refuse to support P5 and develop DAZ Studio, you can be sure. :] Fish

"The Face Room thing was part of the reason that DAZ decided to go their own way" Wow, thats a really sad thing to hear. Yet it makes all too much sense. There seems to have been a serious fragmenting of the community since the introduction of P5, and with this all coming out its not hard to understand why. I miss what I perceived to be a day when the community was more closely knit and gathered in one place, here on rosity. There are many great sites and communities today, but I do like the idea of a central hub for the community. Im just being naiive, I guess thats just the nature of human affairs, as things grow larger they break apart and head in different directions. I do feel kind of left out of the poser "mainstream". The combination of V3 rendered in P5, while technically superior, leaves me somewhat cold. Posette and dork had a certain warmth and vulnerability that I don't see much of these days. This could all be my own perception, but I do hear a lot dissatisfaction and it makes me wonder if I'm not the only person who feels this way.
