Subject: Transmap shadows

The sphere has an image and transmap applied, yet it is the sphere that is casting the shadow. Anyway to have the transmap cast the shadow? I'm sure I haven't had this problem before, and yes, the black in the transmap mask is black (0,0,0).

Yeah, hate that. Make sure the black on your trans map is pure black. Other than that, I don't know, I have had that problem sometimes to the point, I couldn't get rid of it no matter what tweaking I did. AS

Oh, you can start increasing your transparency, that WILL get rid of it, but obviously it will begin to make your veggie leaf slightly transparent also. ;o/ AS

I keep forgetting to check the "blend transparency" setting when using trans maps.

In this case, I would say that the black is at 1 or 2, instead of absolute Zero, in your Alpha image... Check it out, and try it again. Another thing I noticed, alpha-channels don't work on Metaballs OR with volumetrics. (shrugs)

Strangely weird, I deleted that sphere, recreated it with the same image and mask and it worked fine... the really weird thing is that Blend Transparency was NOT checked. I think Bryce changes the rules on us once in a while just to keep us humble...

Volumetrics and trans maps. They do work, but I have found that for me to make it work, I have had to use a totally different looking map for the trans. Meaning, I took some pics of flames from a campfire, I took one specific pic of flames against a dark/black background, and loaded that up. Then I used a different flame pic for the trans. If I used the same pic for both it wouldn't work (very well) AS

Good stuff, AS, thanks for the tips! What I meant was simply that shining a volume-visible light through a 2D pict-based object produced distinct square edges, and that I don't believe that Bryce's volumetrics properly read alpha-channel information. But I love your fires, very, verynice! The one on the far right and the second one from the left are my favorites!
