Subject: Uneasy stillness creeps across the community?

ookami ( ) posted Tue, 10 October 2000 at 5:25 AM · edited Sun, 03 November 2024 at 5:34 AM

Is it just me or does it seem that since this whole Renderosity fiasco, there's been a decline in Poser stuff begin made available... and I don't just mean here... I haven't seen an update at PoserWorld or FairyWoods for almost a month... Since Props Guild opened their doors I haven't seen an update... Renderosity Funstuff seems to have slowed... The only two sites that has seemed to increase (somewhat) is the freestuff/funstuff of Renderotica and PoserForum... but some of that looks like people moving stuff out of Renderosity... Is it just the time of year? Has the community still in shock from the Renderosity fiasco?

I think everyone is waiting untill Jack gets the new "free stuff" area up at the new site: http://3d.a1hostco.com Of course it could just be the time of year, or apathy, who knows...

I thought perhaps the time of year... what with classes starting up again... At least Bbay and Zygote seem to be getting a fair amount of great new stuff! And Anton's new hair will be out soon! Woohoo!

Unless props become the big thing how much more new stuff could we need - I've downloaded nearly as many people, textures and clothing and the lot as I could ever find time to use. In fact at this point, Im started to contemplate entering the world of making textures cause in that lies all the variety - good textures can make one pants model (or whatever) look like a dozen. I think Renderosity is fine - the 'fiasco' didn't affect me at all. It was picked up and the new staff has shown they're eager to make a go of it - given the circumstances one can't ask for more than that. - Dave

Well I am new, so I know nothing about the fiasco and stuff. I am just happy there's a place where I can find stuff, aks for help with problems and show my work. There's still a lot to learn and joining up with renderosity has helped me already after a few days. And oh well, when I get some decent stuff done, like my poseable body armor I will share it so you have some new stuff Ookami ;) grin The Engineer.

There's a lot of stuff for P4 but damn little for Vicky and Michael. Morphs, clothes, poses ... there's a lot that's needed. There may be a reluctance to scamper after Vicky 'n Mike's stuff after making major investments in time and money on Mr and Ms P4's stuff. There's Burton's negligee's, faces by Schlabber, and armor, et al that don't fit Vicky 'n Mike. The net result may be a reluctance to invest effort in making or buying more P4 stuff, as well as reluctance to invest effort in making Vick/Mike stuff until it's clear that they will survive. Just a guess.

I too have downloaded more stuff than I've had chance to integrate. Only last night I spent untill 4:30am tweaking the face of one of the many Lara Crofts I have, I was trying to make her look less lifelike and more like the EIDOS figure... I gave up upon realising that while I could alter the component parts I couldn't really tweak them as desired, (I wanted to position them on X & Y, etc.) then I got into tweaking the breasts and the body colour, I can loose hours playing with a womans breasts... :) All this doodling comes at the expense of playing with Vicky, which I bought, but have yet to really play with. I found loads of morphs at Morph World 2.0 (link at right) and even more stuff is available on a couple of hotline servers. (get the client from www.bigredh.com) then use the search engine at www.hlsearch.com PC & Mac support is provided, you can even get a a Linux client called fidelio (you'll find it at freshmeat.net) Then there is Jaeggers "millie" and all the morphs for that too, also at Morph World 2.0 (But I still say that the base Vicky is ugly :) If I can't tell you where I got the stuff, I can probably ftp them to a site of your choosing, (or up them to a hotline server) mail me and I'll see what I can do. I suppose overall I'm quite happy with the "scene" at the moment, I'd never been to Dendras' web site until now, so I don't really know what I'm missing, and Zygotes stuff is cheap in comparison to what decent 3D models used to cost a few years back. By no means perfect, but it'll do for now.

I also know there are a ton of contests out there at the moment and people are going from one to another ..

3ddave44, Normally, I would not chose to echo previous sentiment, however, from a what's needed perspective there is a ton of things still needed. It all depends on your interests. Clothing is a major need, not only for sports, athletics, casual activities, formal activities and environments, but especially for Vicki and Mike. I wish I had the talent to produce P4 default clothing for our newest couple. Usually, when someone posts that they are looking for something to work on from a clothing or prop suggestion they are innundated with requests. Creativity from a group perspective seems to go in cycles, but is inspired by new tools and ideas. Vicki spurred a lot of work when she came out, however, Mike has not. Perhaps the next upward cycle will occur in Curious Labs releases their Pro Pack.
