Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 22 9:03 am)
Hi Folks! MY GAWD!! THERE'S ANOTHER INFINI-D USER IN HERE!! (Dr Zik regains his composure.) But, seriously, archlite, it's actually quite simple--at least on my Mac: Render an object in Infini-D and export it as a .dxf file. Open the Painter 3D application that comes with Poser4. Use the File:Acquire command and open the .dxf file you just created. The default window settings are 200 x 200 pixels, but you can change that to taste. The model will usually show up from a top-down viewing perspective and in high conrast (black/white) lighting. Use the Rotate tool to turn the object around until you can see it the way you want. At this point, I usually click the selection tool and point to the object, which automatically launches the window that permits you to smooth the model. The default smooth angle of 45 degrees is sufficient for most of my needs. Select the File:Export command, select the .obj option, and rename your model. Painter will automatically create a new .obj file and accompanying .mtl file that will accept textures (although usually as simple flat textures). My next step is to open the new .obj file in UV Mapper, map it, and re-export it as a new .obj and texture map. Sometimes, if the model is simple enough, I take the .dxf directly into UV Mapper. The point is, with some simple file converting, you can use Painter3D to create a Poser-ready object from an Infini-D model. If you want to discuss this further, feel free to send me a private message. Hope this helps. Peter (Dr Zik)
I can give it a try. Infini-d has ony a DXF export, but Carrara (which I have also) can convert nicely to obj. If they're not to large send them my way, and I'll see what I can do. James PS Dr Zik, I only have 4.0, never got 4.5, if you have 4.5 can we make a deal for me to get it? As you know MC is no longer, so I can't get it from them :(
Hi Folks! A former colleague of mine was the product manager at Specular; I think he is serving in the same capacity at the new Metacreations. If I can get in touch with him, I may be able to get you a full working, legal copy of Infini-D v4.5. Send me another note James, and let's talk some more.Perhaps we can work out an equitable bartering arrangement. Peter (Dr Zik)
Carrara is the BEST option for Infini-D exports since it's basically a hybrid of Ray Dream and Infini-D--and it allows you to directly export an Infini-D file as an OBJ or 3DS file without messing with DFX at all. Being basically a 2D artist--I liked the ability to trace objects in Illustrator and FreeHand and import them into Infini-D. Carrara is an incredibly fantastic solution to getting my Infini-D files into Poser.
I have Carrara, but I really do a lot more modeling in Infini-D because it's just aan easier interface. And I end up with better results. Then I bring it into Carrara to convert to obj. I hope that Carrara's next update will address a lot of its short comings and fix the interfaces. Anyway, Archlite e-mail me (click my name here in the post) and I'll convert those for you. James

I have a couple of models I found in Infini-d format but I cannot convert them. Is there anyone that can convert them to dxf,3ds,cob,max or lwo?
