I have a model of a gun I've been working on in 3ds max5 and I can't seem to get a good UV map from the OBJ export. Every trick and attempt to cure this problem had failed. I've followed all the tuts and used all the help I recieved in my previous thread. but still no progress. So here's my proposal...If anyone thinks they can get this to work I'll be happy to send you the file to use as you wish...I just need a good qaulity tex to use in my sci-fi renders. Thanks...

It might help to address the 'oversmoothing' problem first as whatever the quality of the texture this will always show through... See where all the right-angle sharp edges look messed up in Poser? That's because Poser expects nice organic curvey meshes. To fix this, either add a 'bevel' to each straight edge in Max, or 'split vertices' in UV Mapper... I take it you are using Steve Cox's UVMapper, right?

I agree with hogwarden, a bit of vertex splitting would improve the rendering no end, and UVMapper Pro would probably do a better job of that. I can do that, and UV map it for you, but I'm not the best person to make a texture map. PM me if you want me to take a look at it.

There's a setting on import, 'weld identical vertices'..helps, but I've been there meself..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

You can also use UVmapper to split vertices to amke nice sharp edges for Poser. After that a simple box map should do the trick
