This is just the latest test-render of a desktop scene I've been working on for a bit. Just added many, many props, all of which I modeled in Rhino and textured in Bryce. Mostly, I'm just in need of ideas for stuff to put on the desk? Any ideas at all, or lighting tips, or anything? Thanks for looking, regardless!

It's really impressive. You're going for the really cluttered feel? More clutter then. How about half eaten plate of food (that would make it more like my desk). Maybe more piles of books and paperwork. As for the lighting, looks pretty good to me. You're better at lighting than me anyway, so I can't really comment.

Don't add anything, it's just perfect. I specially like the lighting. Bravo Michel

1st: great image. It stands as it is. 2nd: just as an idea, the clutter on the desk seems a little too disconnected. If there's a flat place (eg a bit of paper), people tend to put things on it (just for the time being, you understand, although 3 weeks later it's still there). Mind you, one thing I WOULDN'T put on a pile of paper is a candle! OK, you've got a glass of wine(?); a wine bottle? and some pens; an ink-well? Also, perhaps you could try clearing the area in front of the chair (the "working area"), move the dross to each side, and just have a "document being worked on" there as the centre of interest? None of the above is criticism - just possible ideas.. Cheers, Diolma

Love the scene. The ambiguous era of the setting is intruiging. Looks a bit like a 17th century time traveller has been collecting books and objects from the future. Maybe through in something small and ultra modern to push the point. I agree with Diolma that the clutter can use some real world reorganisation.

Wow, thanks for all the input and comments! The scene is, "Something in the Wine", a scene from the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan. I am adding a man, in this case an Asha'man wizard-warrior type guy who just wears black, and he is being poisoned by his wine. So, next up: 1. Spill the wine. A terrain and some metaballs should cover it. 2. Insert the guy, and make sure he fits properly. The guy is Michael 2, in this case. He's done, although I may have to do some postwork mouse-painting to make his clothes look proper for an Asha'man. 3. A knife, a dagger more likely, on the left side of the desk. Out murder-ee will be reaching for it, drooling blood, in futility. 4. Wax drippings from the candles, meat-balls should do it. SDNoble : The time-frame is 3 thousand years in the future, or 3 thousand years in the past. You pick, it's the Wheel of Time, and it's eternal and stuff like that! dB : Nice pouches, but alas, our Asha'man doesn't smoke tobacco. Although Robert Jordan never mentions marijuana in his books, he doesn't actually STATE that they DON'T smoke it! Diolma, great ideas! The ink well is next to the brushes, those pencils are the ones used to draw the rukh on the artpad. I couldn't model a feather properly, so I excluded quill-pens from this scene... Perhaps if I move the inkwell and brushes a bit to the left...? Thanks again for the input...

Shadow: Great image, just one thing I noticed - the candle flames are burning at the end of the wick, kinda like a fuse burning. The bottom of the flames should be at the bottom of the exposed part of the wicks, touching the tops of the candles.

Great image, great details :o) Everything is maybe a tad too clean - you'd expect the books to be well-worn, the backs of them very scuffed and broken down, and a haze of ash and dust over everything. I particularly like the details of the picture on the wall, and the (blue) page to the right of the picture. It'd be nice to see something on the parchment that's unrolling on the desktop, as well. Agree with Diolma about arranging the desktop in relation to where 'he' sits. Two thumbs-ups!!!!

Ok then maybe just a bit of spilled ink close by the pens.

Aye, I agree with you Dbgrafix, and with most of what you said, pogmahone. But, alas, there is no "Dirt" Lab yet, so most of the dirtification will have to take place in postwork. Imagine a lab that coated each material in place with some grime?!?! Thanks again for the input, everyone. This image is evolving very nicely, I appreciate the perspective...
