Subject: Poser Newbie

Hi all, The site is wonderful. I just got Poser 4 and Bryce 5 and am all fired up, and would like to thank all the wonderful people who have put free stuff up to get people started. Now the question. Is it possible to get something I have created in Bryce into Poser 4 as a prop? I have worked out how to import Poser stuff into bryce, but not the other way around. If this is not possible, do I have to break the budget once again to purchase another package to make my props? If someone gives me an answer and I get anything semi-decent knocked up I will then immediately figure out how to get it uploaded into the freestuff area. Cheers

As I understand it, stuff created in Bryce can only be used in Bryce. You can upload what you've made into the "Bryce" area of free stuff, for other Bryce users to download. As for modelling props for Poser...there's free software you can use. Wings3D and Anim8or, for example.

Oh, I want to know the answer to this one too! Kristta

OK. Thanks for that randym77. I have just dug around a bit more and it seems that Bryce will only export terrains and lattices. Hmmm. Gets more confusing. I will have a look at Wings3D and Anim8or. Grrr Learning Curve seems pretty steep, oh well, time to get serious. Thanks again.

As said above, only terrains and lattices..most people are going in the other direction. You can export Poser characters to Bryce..along with clothes and hair (as long as they're not 'dynamic'..;)..at least that's been my experience. There's also a program called Grouper, that will let you assign materials for a character (unless you *like* assigning a mat to 'pinky, 3rd digit'..etc..;) and import into Bryce. And though people are probably thinking of me as the Wingdy's Unofficial Spokesperson..here's where to get wings..

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

Actually... as long as what you make is not boolean... you CAN export from Bryce... if you select an object, and click the little "E" (the smoothing option) you can hold Ctrl+D and export... :) This will not work for boolean objects tho

Yes- Groupers a "must have" for going from Poser to Bryce (link). The Control+D export option only works with imported meshes and Bryce rocks. This way also won't have any Bryce textures applied. There's no way to export any of the Bryce primitives. I sure wish there was! Best; Dan

You can however download other folk's primitives for Bryce and, providing it's acceptable, make a model and export that. It depends on the terms of use, just have to read the readme's and see which allow redistribution and/or commercial use. I'm fairly sure I saw some here in the Bryce freestuff, you can also find some presets at the link I've posted. Follow the "presets" link at the top on that page. I'm not sure about the usage restrictions though, the readme's are vague about it.

Umm...my memory is that Bryce also will not export a group. So even if you use third-party primitives, you can't do much towards exporting a complete model.

You're right, Bryce didn't always export mesh groups. I think it started working with Bryce 5, just tired it and it seemed to work fine. Best; Dan

I think if you use the symmetric lattice object in the terrain editor to create shapes of objects, you can export those. It's been a long time since I've tried this, but if memory serves me right, it can be done. Melanie

Thank you to everyone for all their helpful advice. When I finally get my head around this wonderfully confusing piece of software and get something that I am not too ashamed of, I will post, and similarly once I can knock up a not too shabby prop, it will go into the free-stuff area. Pity about not being able to import export straight from Bryce to Poser, it would be a marriage made in heaven. Lupus55 ... The wolf not the disease, by the way.
