Subject: Getting fed up with poser

FRDungeonMaster ( ) posted Mon, 21 June 2004 at 7:08 PM · edited Fri, 20 December 2024 at 7:59 PM

I am starting to get pretty upset with poser. In my opinion it is unstable and constantly malfuntions on my computer and has become a waste of money. First the morph dials dissapear, they show that they are on and yet they are nowhere to be found. Then without any good reason i get a parse error of some kind and now the program will not even open. How many time do I need to reinstall this piece of crap program. I am really fascinated by 3d art and desperately want to do something good with it. Can anyone tell me about other 3d programs that do what poser does at affordable costs?

What version and SR are you using? What OS 98, XP or what? I have little or no problems with Poseer 5 using XP Pro, 3-4 characters, texture maps over 4 MB each, full rooms of props, etc.

You don't mention what version of Poser you're using. Have you visited the Creative Labs site and downloaded/installed all the updates for your version? Poser out-of-the-box does have numerous "issues", but with the updates available, most users here have reported P4, PPP (P4+ProPak), and P5 to be pretty stable on a stable machine. Graphics programs as a whole are pretty resource-intensive, and a lower-powered or unstable computer can suffer a bit under the load.

In addition, assuming "affordable cost" is around the 200 dollar range, there are none. Possibly Carrara, but it's pricier. Then you have Cinema4D, Lightwave, 3DSMax, et. al. The attached RTF file includes notes on setting up the Poser in Windows XP, including adjustments to virtual memory.

Huh??? I used the afore-mentioned setup procedure after I found it posted over at RDNA. Thanks for re-posting it Ynsaen! Dale

yw, d-larsen. Incidentally, the parse error is likely an XML parsing error. Patching to Sr3 or later usually repairs that.

This is without any doubt one of the best things I ever read on Poser. Thanks for this great link!

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Opps! Bad miss spelling. It should be "disappear". Sorry.

Well I changed the resolution on my monitor and that gave me my dials back. And Ive downloaded and installed the patch hoping that fixes the error and yes it is an xml parsing error. I am using windows xp btw and poser 5. Thanks for all the replies and help, it is much appreciated.

If you can do it, try using ynsaen's setup procedure for P5, it will vastly improve performance and cut back on lock-ups. Good luck!
