Are there any freebie servers out there in cyberland that won't kick back MTS files? It would be nice if I could use the MTS technology that I invested in.

Off the subject....I am kind of curious about metastreaming. I used to do it in RD5.5... and now have Cararra. I have seen that metastreaming has changed in the past year or so.. requiring a keycode to enable. (or something of the sort) Answer me this if you would; Is the original metastream plug-in still on the MetaCreations site ? So, if a person goes to my site and doesn't have the plug-in, is it still there. If this is not so... I think we have just found the breach in contract that Cararra users want to have to assemble their little civil suit upon them. I didn't BUY these products to create and then put onto the web to LEASE a contract to enable their use. This was NEVER part of the original agreement when I purchased the MetaCreations products line which PROCLAIMED nothing pertaining to my having to purchase a key to use this plug-in on my websites. I use FLASH as well.... If MacroMedia were to come along and say , "Oh, thanks for buying our product you now have to PAY to use it on the web if you are a business.",.. Well, if that were the case, they would be out of business faster than the BBB could send out an investigative team. Well, maybe I am wrong. Anyone know what I am rambling on about ?

Well, there is MTS2 and now MTS3. What seems to have happened is that Metacraeations dumped all their products in favor of MetaStreaming3. MTS2 was incorporated into all of their 3D products, Poser, Carrara, Canoma, RDS, Bryce. Now, it seems as if MTS2 is being phased out, and you need to spend a few more bucks to get involved with MTS3, sort of like being nickel and dimed to death. With MetaCreations/MetaStream, it always seems like the old carrot and stick method of creating revenue.Seems like a simple situation of good product's, greedy, piss-poor management. You seem to be on the right track, if you know what I mean.

Oh well.. I am going to try contacting them next week. Seems like a bit of bait and switch to me. Thanks for your reply :

BTW, there's a bit of grumbling in the Macromedia world over dynamic graphics serving which was also originally free and now involves licensed servers. (Having nothing to do with Flash) Greed seems to be ubiquitous.

1. Angelfire.com allows use of MTS files. 2. I believe you only need a broadcast liscence if you are using MTS 3 and Not 2. However I didn't care for Metacreation's deserting their clt's like that. I guess it is back to VRML unless a few 3D companies decide to work in co-operation and make a new streaming 3d plugin. Check out these weblinks for similiar program/plugins. http://www.superscape.com/sevexamples/pana/page1.htm http://www.B3D.com

I believe the MTS2 is no longer avaialable since their webpage with the download is gone. They bought view point and seem to be working something with them.

I wouldnt count on any support from METACREATIONS . They wont even reply to an email. In fact Support emails bounce. Seems we all have products with No Support, With the exception of Poser (for the time being)

MetaCreations/Stream is kaput and now under the name of Viewpoint which they bought well before dumping their product line.
