Subject: How to save faces (fc2) with scale settings

Francemi ( ) posted Fri, 16 July 2004 at 7:05 AM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 8:18 AM

After a reply by EnglishBob to my previous post about how to distribute a freebie, I found out that the SCALE settings does not get saved in Face Library (expression). Is there a way to do that? Note that it's not the only settings that didn't work: in fact, the only one that did work is the ice elf ears. That's for Sara... who else! lolll Thanks. France

I think you can just edit in the scale values by hand, if you're brave: actor head:1 { channels { scaleX xScale { keys { k 0 1 } } scaleY yScale { keys { k 0 1 } } scaleZ zScale { keys { k 0 1 } } [...] rest of pose file You need only include the ones you need, and the k 0 1 lines need to be altered to the value you want - 1 is 100%, so 105% would need k 0 1.05 for example. But the problem with the other morph channels is bugging me - I answered in your other post, I'm sure I saw this before. I'll be happy to fiddle with your file if you want to send it to me.

I would gladly send it to you if I knew where to send it. Are you talking about the fc2 file? France

Whilst I would encourage you to edit the fc2 yourself as sugested by Bob, it's a great way to learn! I would also point out that the free utility 'MAT Pose Edit' is a very handy thing to have, and an easy way to include (or exclude) scaling and other things that can't be saved directly to a pz2 from the Poser interface.

I have MAT Pose Edit but I don't understand how to make it work. And I thought it was only to edit pz2 files, not fc2? France

Say you want to make a pose that applies the "Round Face" morph, scales the head, and Y translates the BODY.

You would load your character in Poser, make those changes, then save the character to a pallet with a new name. Now open your new cr2 in MPE, delete all the materials, and all the channels except for "Round Face", the scale channel in the head, and the yTran chnnel in the BODY. Save a pose file out of MPE, then delete the new figure you made.

For reference: the link is to the other half of this discussion. I joined them back together because it isn't just about scale after all...

Scale first, though - I edited a 95% xScale into the file by hand as described above, and that worked.

However, I've read some of the original post again, and I can see why the FC2 file you generated didn't work on a default Sara 2, and why it didn't work for me. My fault; I should have read the thread more thoroughly. If I may quote you:

"I did all that on Sara with the head and nose (Digital Hippies) applied."

In other words, you applied some third party morphs which weren't in the original Sara to make your face; I can see the keys for them in the file. Unfortunately, that means that for your FC2 file to work for someone else (or even for you, again) they have to install the same morphs as you used and name them exactly the same. If the names are different, the face pose won't work.

There are still options for distributing this character, but none of them are straightforward. I'll try to post again with some suggestions after my head stops spinning. :)

;o) Thank you very much Bob. You see, I saved Sara2 with the head, nose and ears morphs applied as a new cr2. That's the one I used. I guess, I'll simply put the parameters settings in a textfile and specify to apply the three morphs before playing with the dials. Thanks again! France
