Subject: incompatibility

I just bought gillian character pack and it says it was made in poser 5. The library appears to look like gray circles and my pro pack cant apply the inj or mat files to v3. I tried deleting the mac plugin but it still does not work. can any1 help me?

DId you email Gwendolyn about this? I find on quick investigation that this is listed as a P5, Windows-tested product, and the product page lists satisfied comments by several people that I know of as active members of the community. I am not sure how you ended up with a "Mac plugin" as this was a zip distribution of the correct files in PC format. The "grey circles" sounds like png's that aren't getting converted. I note from looking at the ReadMe that you are provided with both png's (Poser5 only) and rsr's for these. I also note that the bump maps are in jpg format, which is preferred by Pro Pack but would need to be converted for Poser4. I am sorry to say this, but the scenario that makes sense to me is that you somehow have a partial distribution of only the P5-specific formats, and possibly converted for Mac, as well. Forgive me for saying this, but it might explain why you didn't contact the original creator.

Well, there are changes between Pro Pack and Poser5. This is clearly labeled as a P5 product and you will need to do a little work to use it in Pro-Pack. As I recall, the png thumbnails will not be used by Pro-Pack. The rsr thumbnails should be compatible, but only if they are 91x91 pixels. If they are the larger P5 sizes you will have to convert them, skip them, or make your own. On the INJ side. My guess is that your Vickie lacks the proper morphs. I assume you have the complete Victoria3 with all the face pack and body pack? Incidently, some texture makers reference the DAZ map for eyelash transparency; you'll get an error message if you don't have the complete product. I really can't say more without more information. Also, as well as I know P4 there are issues in P5 that are not in my knowledge base. If you can describe your problems more clearly, with the kinds of errors that occured, some of the experts here should be able to patch you up.

A few things I'd try. . . Make sure your ProPak has the latest Curious Labs updates installed. Thumbnails I see by the Readme for the product that rsr's and PNG thumbnails are both provided. I'd try moving the PNG's out to another folder temporarily and then open the folder in ProPak. This should convert the RSR's to new PNG's automatically. If that doesn't work, try looking at the thumbnails in an external utility such as the excellent (and free) Irfanview. If they look okay there, you could try converting them to BMP and back (save the originals off elsewhere first just in case) to see if Poser will display them alright then, It sounds like the old alpha-channel problem, and that should "flatten" them to one channel. INJ-REMs Make sure you have The latest updates/versions of V3, V3 body pak, and V3 Head Morphs all already installed into their correct !DAZ folders. You say your ProPak "can't install" the INJ files - are you saying when you select your V3 and then attempt to apply the Gillian INJ files, that the Gillian Dials don't "appear" or that you get some sort of error? Since your description is so brief, it's really hard to tell what the specific problem is there. It's possible you're expecting the Gillian Character to appear as soon as the INJ's are run. In fact you'd still need to spin the dials to apply the morphs, as all the INJ files do is install the dials. Your mention of deleting the Mac plugin is confusing. I'm guessing you're referring to the really really excellent tip earlier this week on deleting the Quicktime Mac plugin to speed up Poser's loading time. If so, this is irrelevant to this problem (or any other except problems rendering to a quicktime movie), and mentioning it just clouds the focus of the problem. If that is what you were referring to, please clarify so other posters to this thread can focus on your problem more effectively. I hope some of this has been of some help, and please post here if the problem gets resolved. I'm interested in Gillian as well, and it's in my shopping cart awaiting the next RMP discount code promotion Ebot.

the error says cant open this inj file.

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 1:21 PM

"the error says cant open this inj file." That sounds like it's making a call to another INJ file that isn't there or isn't where it expects it to be. Usually this type of error mentions the INJ file name and the path it's supposed to be at. Try noting the file name and doing a Windows FileFind to see if it's present and where. Most of the current generation of DAZ master INJ folders are put into a runtimelibraries!DAZ... subfolder. this is because many users reorganize the contents of their Pose library and this broke the "Magic" of INJ files calling other INJ files, because they have to be called with paths. THis is why I was asking if you had all 3 V3 Products installed, and if they were the latest updated versions. If you installed the original V3 without the updates, the Gillian INJ files are calling files in the wrong folders.

yeah i do have the face, body morphs but they are not updated. maybe ill try that.

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 1:58 PM

That should do the trick. Did the Thumbnail problem get resolved?

rsjpeg ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 2:19 PM

no. :( maybe i need poser 5

leather-guy ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 2:43 PM

Did you try each of my suggestions? Update ProPak Move the PNGs and let ProPak re-create the PNG's from the RSRs Use IrfanView to convert the PNGs to BMPs and back again. I'd be surprised if none of these worked.

rsjpeg ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 2:49 PM

there is an update for pro pack? I did not see any on the curiouslabs site

miked123 ( ) posted Thu, 19 August 2004 at 3:16 PM

I too had problems with this in propack. I converted the pngs to rsrs and then back again in p3do. That fixed my icon problems. Then I noticed there were two different injects a full inject and a morph inject. The morph inject did not work for me because I moved all the V3 inject folders to my camera directory, but the other inject file (I think it is the first one) worked fine. This is a good product but probably could have used a little bit more testing before release. I really hate it when products are released for Poser 5 only when they don't have to be. Sure if it is dynamic clothing or hair fine, but merchants should realize that limiting their products to Poser 5 is only going to limit their income.

Funny, I feel the same about products that are released only for P4/PP when they don't need to be. ;-)
