Subject: weird space babe... idea... does not exist.

I have long been tring to make this space piolet from the P4 Eve Hybred (P4 nude woaman top on Eve bottom see http://lcrepiliere.free.fr/3dmesh.html) but getting nowhere. has anyone ever made a a figure with a second set of arms replacing the legs male or female? Attached is a composit done in Photoshop crudely demonstrating the idea.

Would it woork better if the hips were replaced with a chest element alltogether so collers/sholders ranther than buttocks/thighs ran to the new arms? I can't get the edit of the .cr2 or the boning write... but I can never bone anything right. The figure would not looke to weird with two chests isf they were P4 chest that were flattened entirely I imagagine... the idea in all this is that space pilots would be body modified for optimal efficiency. Probly they would have their brains just put into chimp bodies or tin cans but faster than light is impossible any how sow it all fantasy anyhow.

Um. Well, you can check out a book by Shamms Mortier, available at Amazon, but be warned, this is the only thing you can really use it for. (OMG! I can't believe I just referred someone to Shamms Mortier... THE HORROR!)

Whaaaat? Much better to get the Bloodsong ("Secrets of Figure Creation with Poser 5"). Shamms is mostly uninformative, except for the places where he is dead wrong. The Bloodsong book is dedicated to figure work and (despite the title) is quite appropriate for Poser4 or 3 as well. Problem with this figure is you aren't going to be able to weld the "peds" (as John Varley called these distal hands) properly. No matter where you take the slice, the vertices won't line up. You will have to fake it by hiding the joint under something. Me, based on the descriptions various SF writers have given, I'd make the change somewhere between knee and ankle (so it would be more like a monkey with opposable toes).

"Falling Free" bu Lois McMaster Bujold, with occasional appearances by Quaddies in yher Vorkosigan series, most recently in "Diplomatic Immunity". Sample chapters available from www.baen.com The lower hands would, I expect, be much more muscular. I don't think just replacing feet with hands would work all that well, even allowing for re-working the join.

I think Varley got there first -- though several of his spacers didn't stop there (cf the character "Javelin" -- from Ophiuchi Hotline, I think.) Yah, it's tough, as you really want a forearm-type structure below the knee. Looks like you are in for some modelling here.

Thanks, I already ordered the Motier book despite THE WORST buyer reviews I have ever seen anywhere in hopes it had info on proper hybidization of figures :( I am very cash poor :( I'll have to see how much the Bloodsong costs! I was thinking to fuse at chest to shest and delete the second head and neck and pull the secend neck opening closed with a magnet or mask it with a simple prop or some how convert a shirt mesh in amorphium to work as lower trousers. I just can't figure out the .cr2 and boning for such stuff.

Well... here was a compound figure (not true mesh cr2 fusion) trial of the idea and I don't like it at all... the character would be cooler I think as co-joined twins bilateral at the hips like atopsy terv doll I think... that is the upper bodieds of two figures joined at the abdomin to abdomin at the hips one inverted top to bottom so like this image bot with the lower head intact... (BTW I tried once making a one body two headed figure but could not get the necks right) Now I wan't the Bloodsong book but it is too expensive and the used costs as much as the new so... anyhow... I don't know if I would be bright enough to understand it... I sure wish I understood Joint Parameters and cr2 hacking and all that.

I think it depends a lot on how you envisage the underlying anatomy. The pelvis does double duty in humans, carrying the unborn child for a female. There's no ribs, no lungs, and you can't easily change that. So I doubt I'd be convinced by a figure that used shoulders. I think you'd have hips, and the switch to arms instead of legs would have to be lower down. Anyone any idea of the difference between a knee and elbow?

I think you are totally right... I need to somehow "convincingly" attach arms to the pelvis. I should probably look at the DAZ chimp too.

If you have a modeler that can export .obj files, this wouldn't be so difficult, depending on the look you wanted. The attached pic shows a few minutes work, taking vicky's forearm and hand and attaching them to her shins, which were cut off below her knees. This is a fairly rough hack job, but gives you an idea of one approach you could take. The actual modeling process is fairly simple, first I posed Vic3 in Poser so her hands were at 88 degree bend, then exported the forearms and hands and fingers as a .obj file. I then imported them into LW, scaled, rotated the arm units, deleted the parts of the legs I was replacing, and then welded them together. The Poserising process (which I didn't do) would be the worst of it, with the tricky hand joints needed to be duplicated and modified for the new 'legs'. Anyway, like a said, just one approach you could take. Regards- Lemurtek

since the toes and fingers are very similar anyway, and you'd want the lower hands to work in front of the body (unless your head swivels 360 degrees) it strikes me that the best approach would be to think digitigrade. Think of the back leg of a cat or dog and lengthen the toes and add working thumbs. There are 3 shortcuts to do this. Lemurtek's own clawed figures, Natalia3 by Dacort (she has frog feet as well as lion feet so either would be a starting point for morphs) or Traveler's Monster Parts kit at RDNA. There are people with prehensile toes (I watched my landlady pick a dime off the sidewalk), but if you really want hand-like structures down there, changing the proportions of the joints seems reasonable. We can't lick between our toes with the same ease as a cat or dog, so if a hand down there is to be of much use around the face (turning pages, holding the welding torch, focussing a lens) you need to think about how to reach. Hmm... "a man's reach must exceed his grasp, or what is a heaven for?" The poem that is from is called "Lucifer". ;^) Carolly

Lemurtek, that looks great, just to turn the knees around. I was thinking to splice arm to buttock so I had elbow instead of knee but I have to redo all the Join Perameters and I can NEVER get that right. I have been okay at doing mesh stuff even though I never have figure out how to use modeling software but even with simple head transplants I can never get the boning right... or joint parameters... anyway... I am so terrible at it... I am a total end-user :( I wonder if the Bloodsong book would help but I am over budget for a while since I did the I went nuts with the DAZ Platinum Club ninty-nine cent sale to load up on stuff (joined to do it).
