DAZ is pleased to announce the release of Mimic 3.0! Now Mimic has something for everybody. With Mimic 3, anybody can produce video and flash animations in MINUTES. Simply record a voice and run through the default configuration, then save as a video or flash file. It's that easy. Now you can send video clips to friends and associates produced directly out of Mimic 3. Mimic 3 works with most of the DAZ figures, so creating talking videos with almost all your favorite characters from DAZ is easy. Because we've dropped the standard version, we're introducing Mimic 3 at the unbelievable price of $99. That's right, 50% off. Save $100 if you buy today. If you already own Mimic 2 or Mimic 2 Pro, you can get Mimic 3 for only $69.95 or less than $49 for Platinum Club members. Check out all these features: * Camera Lens Controls: New controls on how Fisheye or Flat the camera is. (Preferences Window) * Hair/props that are saved in a CR2 will be loaded in, with transparencies. (Controls available in the Object Tree.) * Video Preview: Can build a video preview so you can know what final output will look like. Video can be saved after preview has been built. (File Menu --> Make Movie Preview) * Flash Output: After preview has been built, can export to Flash. (File Menu --> Make Movie Preview) * Background Image: Can load in various image file formats (sorry, no animated GIFs) as the background. (File Menu --> Background Image) * Lights: Now have up to 8 lights that can be used. (Window --> Light Controls) Light Sets: Can save/Load Light Sets ERC: Full Body Morphs are supported * Can double-click morphs/channels in Object Window to add them to definition (in addition to drag and drop) * Phoneme/Expression Palette divider is now moveable * Phoneme Palette uses tree view so copies are located under their master(click on + signs to expand, just like many other programs) * Can now duplicate Expressions in right-click menu * Preview is toggled on/off and can be previewed at different values * 'Add more to Definition...' button added in definition window for easier access to Object Tree. * Placement of windows remembered on close * Windows (like Video, for instance) can now be hidden on close and will remain hidden next time Mimic is run * Constrain movement of keys in Gestures Track. There are also various bug fixes and minor tweaks that have been done. * Includes Gorillia LE, Mill Dog LE, V1 Reduced Resolution, Flip Hairstyle and the Girl head.

there is already a thread on this by Timotheo (some twenty posts earlier. And then there is the Mad at Daz post by thebert, some seven posts earlier. Both on this same page when your post is/was number one. ;)

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Lunaseas ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 5:19 PM

so why doesn't this get stuck in the Product Showcase Forum?

thebert ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 5:57 PM

DAXGAL Why is DAZ rip off or piss off loyal customer like me with the price of the minic 3 upgrade to all version of minic? Very mad customer thebert

Why is this post in this forum?

xoconostle ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 8:53 PM

Because Carolly hasn't seen it yet? :-) At first I thought maybe "DAZGAL" wasn't actually a DAZ rep or employee, maybe she isn't, but this same post (with same subject line) was made to the "All That DAZ" forum at PoserPros using the same "DAZ3D" nick that Steve and Dan of DAZ have used there, so it does seem sort of odd, if as it appears, that they're ignoring the rules here. By the way, thebert is very mad at DAZ. I just wanted to make that clear.

Becco_UK ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 9:10 PM

DAZGAL or DAZ$@%#?.

Becco_UK ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 9:32 PM

From up above: 'Please post All Merchant posts in the Product Showcase Forum' How come DAZ products get adertised here when there is a more appropriate place.

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 10:05 PM

It's probably just a mistake posting this here instead of the Showcase Forum. I'm assuming DAZGAL is with DAZ so I asked one of the Mods to move the post to the Product Showcase Forum.

BTW: DAZ dropped a $10 (20% additional discount) into peoples accounts that owned Mimic 2 Pro and a $10 coupon (20% additional discount) good only for Mimic 3 for people that purchased Mimic 2 Pro and have not yet purchased Mimic 3: http://forum.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=7338&start=126

Cheers!

Becco_UK ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 10:15 PM

Crescent - no $10 dropped into my account at that site!

Crescent ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 10:24 PM

Hmm ... the server might still be slogging through accounts for the $10 coupon. I know the $10 back is working because I upgraded from Mimic 2 Pro to Mimic 3 today and found the $10 gift certificate in my account afterwards. If you don't see anything by tomorrow, you might want to post to the DAZ thread for clarification. You can also try just adding Mimic 3 to your basket and going to checkout to see if there is a $10 discount at checkout. Hope this helps, Cres

Dave-So ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 10:29 PM

ok..now I'm confused... is there a $10 coupon in the account...or do you have to buy it first. and is there another ??? coupon if you haven't bought Mimic 3 yet? or just a $10 coupon...

It sounds to me that if you own Mimic 2 Pro and/or Mimic for LW and bought Mimic 3 already, then you've been given a $10 gift certificate. (I can vouch for that one.) If you haven't purchased Mimic 3 yet, but you own Mimic 2 Pro and/or Mimic for LW, then you should find a coupon in your account. (If you don't see the coupon in your account, try putting Mimic 3 into your basket and going to checkout. Look at the bottom of the page and see if there is an additional $10 discount in there.)

It's one or the other: gift certificate if you already bought it, coupon if you haven't bought it yet.

I found out about this from reading Bryan's post, which I mostly quoted above. I don't have any insider info on this.

Cheers!

I do hope I'm not being dense. I'm certainly not anti-DAZ or anything, but I do have a question. I'm an animator, and Mimic v. 1 is a godsend when I'm doing Poser work. Reading the list of features, I don't see anything that I can't already do well in Poser 5. I guess I'm just wondering what reason I have to upgrade from Mimic v. 1. Does version 3 have better interpretation and phoneme management or something? I mean, why all this added complexity and overhead to a tool that serves as a functionary to a parent application? Again, just a question. If it's been answered elsewhere already, please let me know. Best Regards p.s.: I'm aware that I can do al those things in Mimic 3, and that's nice, but I really don't see why I'd want to... generally adding features means adding overhead, and my primary goal with Mimic is to go from voice recording to Poser as quickly as possible.

Crescent: How do I post in A DAZ thread about Mimic related things?

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 11:28 AM · edited Sat, 21 August 2004 at 11:35 AM

Becco_UK: A few other people have asked about the coupon already, so once I have an answer, I'll post it here.

Carolly - thanks for moving the thread. Sorry for the extra work.

softriver: I'm not a Mimic expert by any stretch. You'd probably be better off asking at the DAZ site where you could get a better answer. Among others, Josh monitors the Mimic forum and he's one of the ones who is working on Mimic.

Cheers!

to softriver: Don't ask Josh a tech question..you will be reading for a couple of hours :) LOL

but that is a truly great question..one that I'd like an answer to as well...
Let us know if you post it at DAZ Forums...

Cresent: Ta for the voucher reply. Please, how do I post questions about the new Mimic in the Mimic forum?

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 11:58 AM

Has mimic 3 really come about just to get mimic working in D/S? All the little extras with version 3 may well make it look prettier but through the hype it seems like a mere update to me. Perhaps Mimic 2 Pro people should have had this minor update free of charge.

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 3:41 PM

Bryan just posted the coupon:

*For those of you that purchased Mimic 2 Pro and would like an additional $10 off, use coupon code:

MimicProUpgrade

That should do it. Enjoy.*

I really don't know as much about Mimic as I should (shh! don't let DAZ know! ;-) ) so you might want to e-mail to sales@daz3d.com to ask them.

Hope this helps,

Cres

Funny how they always seem to go quiet:-}

Ethesis ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 6:37 PM

I've got a buddy who posts on another board, and he is just sure that the Mimic 2pro patches won't come out. I'm sure he is wrong, so I thought I'd post here to get the link so I can send it to him. Let me know asap so I can let him know. ///////////// The following is his post (over there). You can see why I'm hoping to calm him down. /////////////quoting: happen to be one of the people who has 2Pro. So the feature differences are not that significant. What is significant is the fixes they added into it. Having now talked to a few people that bought 3 already, they have all said that it's nearly identicle to 2Pro but without the bugs. Like I said in my original post, if this was truely a new product, I wouldn't mind having to pay for the "newer version", but it is simply the same thing without all the bugs that were promised to be fixed in a patch. Now it's rereleased as yet another thing I have to shell out a lot of cash for to get to work. And THAT is where I see the problem. I wouldn't care if this was CL, Daz, Microsoft, or Sixus based software. If you release a product, realize it's got some problems, promise to release a fix for it for those that already own the software, THEN turn around and say "Oh, by the way, instead fixing our screw ups, we've just given you a new version to pay for", then it's as I said, bait and switch. In the grand scheme of things, it's not like I'm having to buy a new $3000 version of Maya, or an updated version of Renderman for $9000. But when I only spent about $150 on the original product, that's HALF the original purchase price just to get fixes that they should have taken care of during alpha and beta testing. It's a matter of business ethics. Here's a prime example. HER was released. A few bugs were found, and a few improvements were made. They released HER 1.5. They didn't make you pay for the fix. They simply rereleased it with the changes. Now granted, that's a free product, so now, look at any of their other stuff that they have made additions/corrections/tweeks to. Nobody had to rebuy Designate Alpha to get the 1.5 updates. Nobody had to pay for a second copy of Scian to get the update. That's just good business. Guess I'm just getting sick of seeing "the man" get rich off from releasing flawed products then charging for fixing the flaws. Microsoft may be doing the ASA for future OSes, but ya know what, it won't matter if you bought the version outright, or paid the ASA fee, you will still be able to download your updates, service releases, and hot fixes for free during the "life time" of the software, which by MS standards is 4 years. It's been less than 4 months since Daz said they were going to release a fix for a product not even a year old, and here we are... (sorry, had to edit it for some spelling errors... I'm so dizzy I got cixelsyd on a few words) _________________

Crescent ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 6:49 PM

Ethesis, the best way to get information on Mimic 3 is to talk to DAZ, especially since it sounds like you're trying to get an official DAZ statement about the program. I posted the coupon info here as a courtesy to make sure people were aware of it. Cheers!

Becco_UK ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 6:56 PM

Crescent: the post just above is about a customer unhappy with elements of Mimic 2. What confidence is there that any problems in Mimic 3 will be fixed free of charge? The Sixus1 example is excellent. I had a minor problem with one of their items. Within a short time I recieved details of an update that cured the problem. Send an email query to DAZ and very often no reply is made by them, let alone a remidy to the problem raised.

Ethesis ( ) posted Sat, 21 August 2004 at 7:45 PM

Sorry Crescent, I thought some official DAZ types were in this thread, so I hoped they would answer.

Gareee ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 7:31 AM

So when poser 5 came out, did we get that free because it fixed P4 bugs? When Poser 6 is released, will we get that free as well, because it fixes P5 bugs? Lately it seems the poser cummunity has gotten very greedy and wants everything for either free, or no money at all. Tell CL you want the next Poser free. Tell Adobe you want the next Photoshop free. Tell Newtek you want the next Lightwave free. See what the responses are there.... Then come back and revisit the Mimic 3 situation.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Ethesis ( ) posted Sun, 22 August 2004 at 9:39 AM

Good point Gareee, if someone releases something that is buggy, promises to fix the bugs, and then doesn't and has a complete new release six months later, what we really ought to do is talk to a class action lawyer rather than say anything. As you point out, talking is useless. That said, I expected Poser 5 SR4 to be free. It was, and I'm happy with the product. I expect to pay for Poser 6, assuming I'm still doing renders then. I'm just a hobbiest. As you appear to be in flaming people. Consider that the question was "Where are the Mimic 2Pro patches that were promised?" not "My buddy wants 3.0 for free." He'd be quite happy with just the patches. He'd pay for 3.0 if it were anything more than 2pro with the patches completed. BTW, it appears that DAZ is taking care of the issue and will have it resolved over the weekend. Anyway, interesting posting here.
