Subject: How do I fix my scale problem?

pirewyn ( ) posted Fri, 20 August 2004 at 9:16 PM · edited Mon, 27 January 2025 at 3:20 AM

I create 5 wall secions in max. I export them one at a time. wheni import them in poser they import at different sizes from each other. I create one wall section, export it. I reset max, create another wall section scaled to the settings of the first, I export it. Do they import into poser the same size? No. Can someone answer this quandry? It has been a stumbling block for some time and is keeping a really nice product from being available to the 3d community. I can be reached here, or via email pirewyn@yahoo.com

You could load all the wall sections into max and save them as one object, then load them into poser and split them with the grouping tool and resave each part from poser, that way, they will all be the same size.

Doc, I am importing a 3ds file with the default settings. i didnt think any of those import settings would make a difference. You have a suggestion? The grouping tool routine doesnt work well or neatly as i have got to grap every single face of the mesh in order to avoid having "holes". Is this scale issue fairly common or did i win the prize? It is really t hrowing me, why a door panel made from the cloned parts of a wall panel should be randomly resized by poser when the wall panel was not.

Hi pirewyn, If you use the default import settings ... (and it matters not whether you're using P4 or P5 - see above) ... Poser will take the largest dimension (in x, y, or zScale) of the imported object and make it equal to 69.75 inches (using DGS (Dr Geep's Scale for P4 or P5 - PNUs). This may cause your imported objects to be different sizes in Poser. Here's what to do ... 1. Import your object into Poser but ... Make sure you **UNcheck** the **"Percent of standard figure size:"** option. 2. Adjust the Scale of the imported object to the size that you want in Poser. Write down the Percent Value - this is the Scale you will use for all imported objects and then they will be the same relative size as when they were created. cheers, dr geep ;=]

I thought that the parts might have been different sizes and so the "percent of standard figure size" wouldn`t have worked, oh well...

Ok here is the set in question. I am not putting it in the freebies as my site tends to get bogged down and geocities tells me to go to hell. . so here is the site . . . www.geocities.com/pirewyn click the castleplay link. . .then go to the dungeon (that is where the d/l are) check out the set and let me know what you think. . i am already working on the second set which should include doors and windows and bit and pieces. cheers, Drew
