Cool. Can't wait to see how this progresses. Just out of curiosity and because my modeling skills are still not the greatest, how long did it take you to do this model? And what modeler are you using? I know probably lame questions but modeling is my next thing to really "get". Thanks for sharing... Paul
1.) How long to build? A.) I spent about an hour on this. It's really important to have a very precise scale mockup when you start. That way you can add new detailed pieces and you know they'll fit into the final product perfect. There are still a few things about this mockup which aren't perfect and I'll be tweaking it a little before I head into the detailed major pieces. The process will be to build detailed large scale components (the ones already shown), add detailed small components, then surface, then paint job. 2.) What modelers? A.) All spline in Carrara except for the main body. That was originally a spline object which was converted to vertex and the edge pieces cut out of it. -Kix

My models have curves with edges like yours. Where in Carrara do we tell it to use more edges to smoothen the curves?

In the Spline Modeler you can increase the surface fidelity under geometry>surface fidelity.... Default is 100%; you can increase it quite a bit (I don't know what the upper limit is, but it doesn't balk at 2000%), but I've found that 300 or 400% is usually plenty to hide any un-smooth edges in long curves. Beware, though, because you're asking Carrara to calculate more with higher surface fidelity. - Dex
