Subject: Hiding a single object

Is there a simple way temporarily to hide just one object in Vue? The only way I can find is to drag it on to a separate layer that has visibility off, select "render only visible layers", and then drag it back into the previous layer. This is a bit tedious, especially when the object is part of a group. One expects objects to have a visible/invisible property, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I'm working on my first large Vue project, so I hope you don't mind if I bother you with a few more questions like this. Manuals tell you what things do, not what you really need to know. You need to ask experienced people to find that out.

I'm doing this the same way. However you might try to add a transparent material like it's used for some parts of the eyeballs when you import a Poser figure.

Haven't tried it myself, but might be worth a try. ;)

But you should save the original mat of the object before you do the change, so you can change it back again.

from what I undrstand having an obj visable/invisable is a Pro only thing, otherwise you have to keep doing your layer thing. at least that's what I understand.

Hexagon, Carrara, Sculptris, and recently Sketchup.

Yup, afraid thom is right, this option is Vue Pro only (the option is a right click that says "hide from render"). Sorry, it is a pain to do it using layers.

Hmm - I hope some of the Vue Pro features filter into Vue 5. This is not the only feature that seems to me to be something that should be a fundamental feature of any rendering app which is "reserved" for Pro. Independent zooming of views is another one.

Not sure, if I understand you right. But to make an object invisible in Vue 4 I only use the material editor and put the transparency to 100 %. This way you can keep the object in your layer and make it reappear any time you want just by setting the transparency level to "0".

Unfortunately the object that is giving me problems at the moment has a comples material which I don't want to tamper with more than necessary. But yes, this would be an option, particularly if I save and reload the proper material - actually that might be the easiest.

One thing to note about that transparency thing, there is currently a bug in Vue 4's volumetric atmospheres (which eon has no good fix for at present) that causes even 100% transparent objects to show up as a ghosted back outline.
