Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 10 10:00 pm)
That's a new one on me. My problem's been keeping the program from locking and freezing up when I go to finish a render.Have you tried cleaning out your system? Defragging your hard drive, deleting temp.files and so on? I've found that sometimes that helps with mine. You might also want to get and use an anti-virus program- something of the sort may be messing things up. Are you having trouble with any other programs? The problems there may lead to an answer with Poser.
Have you recently installed a printer or changed printer settings? If so, check these threads: http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1734138 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1900848 http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1555904

When I have major problems with Poser, I just uninstall in from my system..reboot and run this program (link above). Then I reboot once again and install Poser.Works well for me. Hope it does the same for you. :)
ps..downloading from the "Planet Mirror" link works better. smile

Last time I uninstalled and reinstalled Poser, I lost half my files in the transfer.I really don't understand what the problem is. The program was installed long after the printer, and almost a week before the anti-virus program. Like Aldebaran 555, I've been having problems almost from the get-go.I've tried adjusting the virtual memory, keeping the trash cleaned out, nothing seems to help for long. Ijust know...
I have had the SAME EXACT problem and have not been able to trace it (and have done several reinstalls). I am on a network with attached printers but have not noticed if the printer was on or off during these episodes.
What in the world would an offline printer have to do with this and where can I find out more???
And I do have the latest service packs installed.
The "printer" problem occurs on several programs, including Poser, PhotoShop, MS Word, Ulead PhotoImpact. This seems silly to me, but it happens: 1.) Let's say you use a printer that is hooked up to another computer on the network. 2.) Let's say the computer that has the printer is turned off. The programs listed above look for that printer (port?) It's ok if the printer is turned off. But if the computer that runs that printer is turned off, then these programs will not load. I went through considerable trouble trying to figure this out, including talking to some "dignitaries" from Curious Labs. This was rather upsetting to me since the printer was hooked to my wife's computer, and I wanted to save energy by turning off her computer when she was not home. The eventual solution was to buy me a cheap inkjet printer, since I don't print that much. Problem solved.
mdbruffy, the printer scenario I spoke of relates to the original message about how Poser will start to load, then disappear. I still don't have a firm enough grasp of your situation to offer any insight or advice. We'd really need to know about your computer software and hardware specs, including operating system. Also what has changed since Poser last worked for you? I don't think uninstalling and reinstalling Poser really helps much at all, unfortunately. Also, when you uninstall, or wipe your Poser installation, you're likely to lose stuff. Oh, but you should be backing up important stuff anyway.
My system is a two-drive set-up- 2 hard drives. I use one primarily for storage. The one that contains the poser program has an intel 4 processor and 40gb of memory. I also have 512 mb of ram. The operaring system is windows xp home ed.The system is also set up for video capture with an ati cature card that was installed long time before Poser was. The only other major program is photoshop elements-again, it was installed long before poser- even before the video card. The remaining programs concern my scanner/printer/copier and ad aware, spybot and avg anti-virus program- all of which were installed after poser. As for what's changed since poser last worked, it's hard to say. I'll get a picture rendered with no problems, then start a new one-and it won't render. I end up having to do the picture in sections and putting it together in photoshop- like layers of animation cells. Then the next render works fine.I've adjusted the virtual memory so the sytem is supposed to be using both drives, I try to clean out the system on a regular basis- temp.files, history, and so on. There really is no one major thing that's changed. I'm almost convinced that- in some cases- it's simply thwe size of the file I'm working with. 2 examples of this; go to my gallery here at renderosity. The Dr.who pieces. The Dalek attack had to be done in pieces. But the one of K-9 interupting the Doctor's nap was done entirely in poser.
I'm confused about your description of the computer hardware. You say your system has 2 hard drives. Then you say the hard drive that contains Poser has an Intel 4 processor? A hard drive does not have a CPU. The computer has a CPU. So are you saying that you have two computers? You mention 40GB of memory, then say you have 512 MB of RAM? Your hard drives have space that is expressed in MB or GB. Hard drive storage space is "permanent" storage, while "memory" is in the memory or RAM chips. Maybe if you could tell us more clearly what you're working with, we could help you better?
yes, two drives. A primary and a secondary. The primary drive is a hard drive with an intel 4 processor with 40 gb of permanent storage, memory whatever you want to call it. I also have 512 MB of ram.The secondary drive has an intel 3 processor with 20gb of storage. Both share the same housing. The secondary drive is used only for storage.
This is no game. I have been having problems ever since I bought this program. I have told you exactly what I have and how it's set up.If you've never heard of two hard drives in the same computer, that's not my fault.I've told you what I have- one hardrive has an intel pentium 4 processor and the other has an intel 3.The one with the intel 4 is the main drive. All my work is done on it.It's the one with 40 gb of hard drive memory,or storage or whatever you want to call it. There's one mother board. Everything in hooked into it. I can't make it any plainer.
Again, I've never heard of hard drives with CPU's. I have 3 hard drives in my computer. None of them has its own CPU. My motherboard has only one CPU. We could ignore the CPU confusion, and concentrate on a hard drive. You say you have 40GB of storage on the hard drive. How much free space do you have?
don't have Serviec Pack 2 and Windows Firewall is Turned off and I am behind a comcast router. I tried the REGSCRUB program that was supposed to fix my registry, whether it did or not I do not know it still hasn't fixed the POSER.EXE problem. I'm afrid I'm going to have to do a complete wipe and reinstall of Windows which is going to be a pain.

I have a problem to start Poser 5 under Windows XP. Its installed since a week and initially it did work. However since a few days after double-clicking the .exe file the Poser frame pops up for a few seconds in gray colour to collapse soon afterwards without any error message. I tried several re-installs and also enlarged the system storage - but all in vain. Does anyone has a clue how this happens and could help me?
Thanks in advance.
