Is it possible, having made an AVI movie with sound, to import the AVI together with its sound into a new Poser motion file? When I import, I get the AVI but no sound.

If you save the avi sound as a wav, you should be able to import the sound and render an avi with the sound that way. Or you could just render the animation and add the sound later.

I would suggest using video editing software post render for the best results.

Thanks. Editing software won't help since I want to build Poser action around pre-recorded sound. As for WAV files, how do I make these? So far as I can determine Poser only saves files as pz2 and only makes movies as AVI. Have I missed something?

I know how to make an AVI with sound. My question was how to import an AVI file together with sound into Poser for merging with a new motion file. It seems we've drawn a blank. Thanks for the comment.

You can't access the sound in the AVI file. You need to use editing software to create a sound file in the wav format which contains the sound. When you import the sound/wav file it provides the sound to the avi file you've already loaded. When you play the animation in poser you can then hear the sound.

But that doesn't work for me. I added sound to an AV file in my editor, VideoWave II, but the sound does not accompany the video when imported into Poser 4.

Correction. I've just realized I didn't add the sound in my editor. But then I can't, because I need to match the Poser action to the sound, and you can't do that in an editor. Can you ...?

There is a very good free program that lets you add sounds at certain parts of the avi called ddclip at the link. You can match the poser action to the sound with ddclip.

With ddclip you can drag and drop wav files to the parts of the clip where the sound should be, so you don`t even need to remember the frame number.

1. Open the AVI file in VirtualDub (File menu --> Open video file)

2. Save the video's soundtrack from VirtualDub as a WAV file (File menu --> Save WAV)

3. Import the AVI file in Poser (File menu --> Import --> AVI Footage)

4. Import the WAV file in Poser (File menu --> Import --> Sound)

It's an elegant solution. My problem is resolved. This forum has never let me down. Thanks to everybody who offered help. I really appreciate it.
