Subject: Brick wall shader?

october ( ) posted Wed, 29 November 2000 at 11:47 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 7:54 PM

Help, I'm stuck. I've been trying to create a procedural brick wall shader, but am having much trouble. Does anyone have one they wouldn't mind sharing?

See the Carrara galery for some nice shaders that litst has offered; http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=20188&Start=49&Sectionid=6&WhatsNew=Yes I think clint has some also but not shure if ther's a brick one in his set.

Speaking of brick walls...I made a texture map of bricks at 150x150 pix. I apply it to a brick wall and I hit the "ceiling" on tiling at 30. The model isn't very large, I would have thought I would have had to scale down the texture map rather than tile it more than 30 times. Anyone else have any comments on sizes of texture maps to use? thomas

Yep - My Shades of Reality shader pack has about 10 brick shaders in it. All procedural. Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X Carrara, Ray Dream, Poser Figures and 3D Add-Ons. FREE Downloads!!

Hi, The bricks shader that is available in the file i've put on e-groups is not procedural . But there is a procedural cracked tile shader in the pack . And for those who wonder how bricks could be done using a procedural function, go see the extension pack Eric Winemiller have done . It is freely available on http://digitalcarversguild.com . Anyway, it's good to see people use the shaders i've done ! litst

Clint, I own shades of reality, but I can't find the bricks! What folder are they in?

october ( ) posted Thu, 30 November 2000 at 11:22 AM

I've been using the brick function from digital carvers but am having a hard time to get it to look natural, i've been using it in conjuction of clints rocks/bone/duster shaders and litst beachsand/mountain shader which rock, so i have the texture of the bricks and mortar looking good, but am having trouble with DCG brick function to tile correctly. My wall is a primitive cube, would it work better if export it and UV map it?

October - :) Well, I should learn my product line a little better. :) The Bricks are in the RDS SOR Pack and not the Carrara. I remember now why they didnt make it to the Carrara version. I had trouble with them in Carrara for some reason. I couldnt get it to look right so I didnt include them. The Bricks look good in RDS but when I tried to convert them to Carrara there appeared to be a problem with them. Clint

Here is a bricks shader i've made quickly . It is all procedural and looks quite good on a sphere . On other surfaces, i think some tweaking would be necessary . I'll post the shader tree in the next message . litst litst.@freesbee.fr

Now, the shader tree . It's a big one ! I've seen that Eric Winemiller has a section on his website where people can share shaders made with its extensions . I'll send that to him so it should be available for download there soon . litst

Right on! That's amazing, far better than mine. Thanks. I just discovered that a part of my problem was my wall was made of primitve cubes and the brick function didn't work on it at large sizes. I remade the wall with splines and now the bricks tile correctly
