Subject: Vertex Object question...

ziggie ( ) posted Mon, 08 November 2004 at 3:05 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 4:04 AM

Is there any way to achieve the following in the vertex modelling room...? 1. Insert a square plane (4 vertice) 2. Insert a smaller square or oval/circle inside the first square. 3. Empty the polygon of the smaller square or oval. 4. Extrude the larger square so that it is a solid object, but with the smaller square or oval hole running through it. I appreciate that this effect can be achieved in the spline modeller with ease, but would like to achieve same effect in the vertex modeller if possible.

Are you looking for a way to create a cube with a cirlular hole through it? If thats what you want it's easy to do in the vertex modeler. I made one in a couple of minutes. What I did was; first create the Square. then create the circle for the hole in the same plane as the square. empty both. Next loft the square and circle. This will give you a square with a hole in it. Next duplicate the square with the hole and move it up to the desired height. The last step is to select the 4 edges of both squares and loft to connect them. Keith

For got a step. You need too loft the 2 circles as well to create the tube through the cube.

Or you can drop your square, drop the circle inside, empty the lot and then add vertices equi-distant around the square edges to connect to your circle. Select all and fill. Then add thickness, select all again and crease all greater than 50 degrees.

Or... drop a cube, drop a cylinder inside it (change x & y scale to suit. Select all, Ctrl+Alt click a vertice on the cube, then do a Boolean subtraction.
