using Firefox all the time here.. only keep IE on the system todo M$ updates.. if I can find away to do 'em without the automatics/IE my cherished copy of XPLite will be put to work ridding myself of IE ;) if you compare Ie to Firefox.. IE has a long long way to catch up.. I mean.. tabbed browsing.. easy add in plugins to control the content, (I see no Ads, Banners or flash here at all or at Poserpros ;)), less security risks.. maybe IE 7 will have a lot of these who knows?
My guess is that system logs will show wildly varying percentages for non-Explorer browsers, when going from one big site (like this) to another. But the guys who write viruses/trojans/spyware are probably delighted with Onestat's numbers, if it's true that Explorer is a major avenue for hackers to break into Windows machines.
There's something very fishy about those stats. Firefox 0.1? That's oh so not true. Firefox 0.1 was called Phoenix. And it was its name till 0.6, when it was renamed to Firebird, which name it kept till 0.8 when it finally got the name of Firefox. So, supposing they keep the stats by browser identification string (and provided they get the real identification, not "identify as ..." which Opera does), they couldn't gather data for "Firefox" 0.1. And I simply don't believe that so many people who'd download version 0.1 would keep on using it. And Explorer is dead in the water. The idjits disbanded (again) the Explorer development team. So the new version will come out with Windows Longhorn, in 2007. They gave UP! Emperor has no clothes!

Netscape identifies as mozilla. has since shortly after netscape started the mozilla project. all real development for netscape is now driven by mozilla. so you have millions of people using linux working with mozilla. galeon is one used in gnome interface, based on and identifying itself as, mozilla. there are a number of browsers based on mozilla / gecko.

Another site I find quite useful and interesting, as far as browser stats and trends are concerned.bonni

silly thing is that both mozilla and knoqueror will allow you to say to a website that it is ie, or opera, or netscape, or mozilla, or konqeror.
with the ability to alter browser type, any stats based on browser id from httpd variables are suspect.
simply because anyone can have thier browser incorrectly identify itself.

@Khai: It all depends on the particular site. I've got a couple around and Explorer never had 90% there. Still, my point was that such early adopters would certainly switch to a new version as soon as it becomes available. Rare is the program that was really usefull in version 0.1. And it was not called Firefox then. @Jaqui: Proper identification gives any browser away. My Opera identifies as Opera now, but when I had Opera 5, I told it to identify as Explorer*. And it still had "Opera" in the identification string. So it all comes down to the people who do the stats. * And I still get idjits telling me that my "browser doesn't support Javasscript", that they want Explorer and so on. Death to vermin! ** ** Bonus points for identifying the reference. :-)

Er, Java's not Javascript. They are not even close. It was one of those marketing things. But it does support Javascript just fine, thank you. It's that the idjits use a little script to sniff for browser identification string and if it's not explicitly identified as Explorer or Netscape, "it doesn't support Javascript".
