If you need to do a conversion outside Poser, Irfanview (PC/free) will convert .PICT files to just about any format you can think of. QT is also required for this. HTH; DanIrfanview is great application. You may also already have something that will work. IIRC ACDSee will read and convert .pic(t) files and my paint program, Corel PhotoPaint does as well. I imagine PhotoShop and PaintShopPro will handle them too.

My copy of IrfanView doesn't open PICTs, although it's on the supported formats list and I have Quicktime installed, so you're not the only one. However, Macintosh Quickdraw/Pict is on the format list for XnView [link], so you may want to try that.I'm confused myself at this point. I only have three pic type files on my system at the moment. One is a .pic--both Irfanview and PhotoPaint open that one fine. I have two other files that are actually part of a Poser texture package. These are .pict files for the bump maps. Irfanview won't recognize them. PhotoPaint opens them (it gives me an "import into bitmap" dialog) but the resulting image displays some kind of generic Quicktime logo. Poser doesn't choke on them but they never really load or show up on the textures list. Even Quicktime player doesn't recognize them. I have Quicktime 6.3 installed so there may be a newer version. AhHa--I tried an old version of ACDSee32 (v. 2.4)which open the files fine BUT the images are cut off vertically half way down!! In the past, the only .pic files I've had to work with were some thumbnails in Japanese pose sets and I was able to open and convert them with one of the programs--don't remember which one. I can only suggest trying a few different freeware applications that claim to handle pic(t) files and hopefully one will work properly. I'm beginning to think there must be variations in the format or the degree of compatibility of the applications. If you know the source of the files, maybe you can contact the creator and get them to provide jpgs.

Addendum: My advice is still the same, try different apps. Here is a link to a converter that may help if nothing else works. It says 95/98 but may work on XP as well. If nothing reads them, they could be damaged. Maybe a Mac user could open and convert them for you. Ignore the following unless you want to get even more useless info that probably won't help unless you're interested in the details of decoding file formats. OK this gets more confusing, sorry. First, I just realized it is XnView I'm using, not Irfanview. I loaded Irfanview and it read the files but reported that they were jpegs with the wrong extention! Again, the images appear to be cut off so I have no Idea what's going on, error or they were created that way. I was curious enough to look at one in a hex editor. .jpg files have a distinctive signature starting with the first two bytes which are FF D8. The file in question has the FF D8 but not at the beginning of the file. I did a little research on Mac formats and the beginning of the file seems to resemble a Mac pict file signature created in PhotoShop. As far as I can tell, it's some weird hybrid or garbled conversion--just my luck that these were the only two .pict files I had available to test."Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance." - H. Are PIC(MAC) files worthless on a PC? I know about sit files and how to convert them. But what about PIC files? Anyway to use them on my PC?
