Subject: How many here use the 'PO2' trick?

tedbragg ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 9:38 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 7:02 AM

I've been having a hard time reading dials at high res in Poser, so I went around looking for a font hack. Came across the Poser 2.0 interface trick, and THEN I started using it. Good grief, way easier to use! And very responsive under Os X Classic, to boot. I find using the PO2 mode is great for adjusting lights, cameras and general posing, but for materials, finishing touches, etc, best for the default UI. Anyone else here use PO2 mode? Big surprise for me. The controls work very similar to other 3d apps I've used in the past. Does Poser 5 still have this?

operaguy ( ) posted Tue, 07 December 2004 at 10:11 PM

I just purchased and installed Poser5 after years of P4PP. I was SO GLAD to get rid of the italics on the dials. What a relief. What is PO2 mode like? ::::: Opera ::::

What IS the PO2 trick... where does one find it.. and what does one do with it when and if they do find it..?

The PO2 trick doesn't work any more in Poser 5. I agree that it's easier to see, but I didn't find it easier to use overall. Maybe I just got thoroughly accustomed to the normal Poser interface before somebody told me about the PO2!

I still end up using my good old PPP... dont like the dial adjustments on P5... I think mine is wonkie... every time I use a dial and release it... it jumps backward or forward 2-3 clicks. Pity.. cos I liked the folder structure. Does PO2 work for PPP...?

Yes. And I heartily agree with your sense of P5. It may be OK for folks who mainly use mouse-moves, but it's just maddening for dial adjustment.

Maybe you should look into wonkie.

I'm in my first week of Poser5, I am dial crazy, and everything is working splendidly with the dials. Sometimes I spin them, sometimes I click on the number and type in a value, sometimes I DClick on the dial to get to the graph for animation.

Now, I do notice that when I grab the dial and spin to a certain value, when I let go (un-click) the numerical value DOES change a tick or two. However, the position of the body part does NOT move. I figure that is some sort of rounding or equalizing or maybe even limits interaction. I never even noticed it before, because the body part change is rock solid when I let go. I don't even know if that's the way it was in P4PP!

I love the collapsing file structure.

operaguy: I figured the same thing, but... personally I find it VERY annoying. When I am putting together all the parts of my models under construction I like to know it is all lining up precisely. I rely on the dial settings a great deal as I set things up to numbers rather than looking at the actual item on screen as I move them. So my eyes are on the dials most of the time and not on Posers viewports. Yes.... I could type in the values but that is time consuming and frustrating. In PPP the dials are spot on and stay where they are when you release the mouse button. My P5 is gonna stay back in its box till a fix comes out... if it ever does. I am not f... f... flaming by the way.. just making a personal observation. ziggie

How do you do this "trick" please? Thanks, Marque

xantor ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 3:16 AM · edited Wed, 08 December 2004 at 3:29 AM

You just type po2 in poser 4 or propack. Type po3 to change it back to normal.

type it where

PhilC ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 5:50 AM

With the Poser window in focus (the active window) just type "po2" on your keyboard. Type "po3" to reset. Then after you have finished saying "ohhh" and "ahhhh" type "hair" :)

Poser 4 and pro pack only.

VERY interesting. Had no idea that was there. I wonder if Geep knows about this, or plans a tut on it... How does one use this? (properly, that is)

Marque ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 9:43 AM

lol Phil, knew about the hair trick. Thanks! Marque

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 9:58 AM

ziggie, Now that I understand your approach, yes, that would drive me out of my mind also! And I agree, typing in every value would be unacceptable. That would make me uninstall Poser5. What does Curious say? Do they admit it is a bug in Poser5? Or do they claim it is a feature, an improvement over ver4? ::::: Opera :::::

operaguy ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 10:18 AM

Oh man, I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I just launched my old Poser4PP and typed po2. YEARS I cursed the italics. Years. I posted against them. Why or why did I not know of po2. "Why?", I rail against the gods. ::::: Opera :::::

Here's the best in P5. This is using the simple "hide the dial jpeg" hack found at Poser Pros. The dial action is still there, you just move your cursor above the word. All that space taken up by the dial image is saved with the same functionality.

ziggie ( ) posted Wed, 08 December 2004 at 1:49 PM

buddy36s: looks nice... but, do you still get the dial jump syndrome when you release the mouse button..?

Tedbragg at the link is a tool called furfur that converts the "hair" to actually render in poser and there is a tutorial how to use the program too.

zescanner ( ) posted Sat, 11 December 2004 at 8:20 PM

I have a question... If there is this "po2" trick (and then "po3" to get it back) and the "hair" trick... are there others as well?

freyfaxi ( ) posted Sat, 11 December 2004 at 10:44 PM

This sounds an interesting topic. I'm still using Poser 4.03.and I was thinking .would it be worthwhile for some of the older (relatively), more experienced users to post a list of these undocumented 'features' and what they do, and how to apply them ?

xantor ( ) posted Sun, 12 December 2004 at 6:30 AM

As far as I know, the po2 trick and the hair one are the only two undocumented features there are.
