I have to model a farm house, in Normandy, in June 1944. The sort of house that would have been found close to the beaches of D-Day, but not on the beach. I have searched on google, but can't quite get the exact style. Top left looks too Spanish, bottom left not quite right. The two on the right come from a diorama called Normandy 1944, so they look like the right style. Any votes, any ideas?

I think the 3rd one would propably not suit the theme..but the others just might. have a look at the 'Medal of honour' video games for an idea of good low poly ww2 buildings..or watch 'Saving private ryan' only in this job can we play games and watch movies & call it resource collecting :o) Cheers Stefan

There are some good images on this site of properties in Normandy & pretty much all of them are old enough to have really been there then - just click on the no. beside the any of the listings til you see one you like.

Thanks. I am going to go for the style on the right. Think there are too many "village" style houses for Poser already. Stefan, watched Saving Ryan's Privates, The Longest Day, and two documentaries, and still didn't know which style to use, lol, but it was really hard work, all this research that we have to do, lol. Play Medal of Honour? Who has time for games. You obviously don't have enough work to do. I have some models lying around that need texturing. Next time you feel like playing a game, just ask, plenty work for all, lol.

I just watched the EXCELLENT "Band of Brothers" series on the History Channel. I would personally rate this series as the BEST WW-II docu-drama ever made. The realism and precise historical details are astonishing! Its even better than "Saving Private Ryan" if you want a more in-depth look at soldiers, combat-- and there are lots of French, Dutch and Belgian village scenes in it- nearly all carefully re-created and shot in the U.K. at an old RAF airfield...

Here's a link to the original HBO website- which premiered the series a few years back. There are more very good production details here also...

Top right (post 1) doesnt look so much like a house as it does a church. Bottom right is close, but still not quite right -- the windows are too chunky. You want something vaguely Gothic (architecturally, not lifestyle), and out of all of them, that seems the closest. But I'd still clean it up a little: increase the size of the window mullions, give the door a proper lintel. But keep that roof -- that's real close to the real thing.

Slaps forehead. I have Band of Brothers, and never thought to check that for details. Thanks for all the replies. I am almost finished with the model. It's just a low poly background house for a much larger scene, so I didn't need to go into interior detail and such, but it's looking good. Will post a pic when I have textured.
