Subject: Injection Magic Question

Could somebody with Injection Magic help me out here? My husband wrote to Steve (DarkWhisper) but was told we should contact DAZ and since it's the weekend I figured someone must have had a similar problem. After installing the utility (XP Pro) and trying to run it, we get an error message - see image. Injection Magic runs perfectly well on our other machine - a dinky, old PII with Windows 98SE. However, that's no help since we don't have Poser installed on that one :)) Has anybody recently got Injection Magic from DAZ and is running into similar problems?

Do you have any other Dark Whisper apps. installed and running on that machine? I think he uses Visual Basic and I'd suspect the VB runtime library (no, not THAT sort of Runtime) is out of date or otherwise wrong. It may be that you have a more (or less) up-to-date version on the 98 machine. Not sure if the libraries would be available from the Microsoft site - might be worth looking if no one suggests anything else.

Well, the installer prompts you to install the Visual Basic Runtime and I chose to install it both times. No, I don't have any other Dark Whisper apps and unfortunately he's not supporting this any longer :( I highly doubt Daz will either, good thing I can always get a refund. Of course, I'd rather get it to work so I'll go check on MS's site for any information. Thanks, K

If this is happening when you first start the program, you could try using one of the compatability modes.

I don't have an XP machine to hand right now, but IIRC this is how you do it (look it up in Windows Help to be sure).

Find the .EXE file and right click on it, and select properties.
One of the tabs (Advanced ?) will have the option to set a compatability mode. Choose Windows 98 and click OK.

sigh, thanks nruddock but that doesn't seem to work, I'm still getting the same error. I've installed the Visual Basic Runtime 6.0 as prompted by the installer and checking the Microsoft site I see there's a service pack for that so I'm thinking of trying that too. Could it mess up any of my other proggies or should I go ahead?

Ok, I just installed VBRun6sp5, it's actually the same that needs to be installed for MAT Pose Edit to work and still nothing, so I don't think it was a matter of not having the correct Visual Basic files, especially since I've been using MAT Pose Edit all this time. Guess I'm not going to take my chances on the UTC either. Unless someone out there has had the same problem and can shed some light on this by Monday ;) Thanks for your help and time.

nruddock ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 11:18 AM

One you can do to help DAZ help you is make a note of things that are different between the machine you can get working on and the one you can't, such as version of Internet Explorer, DirectX etc.

Sorry I can't help much more as I don't have it (yet).

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 4:23 PM

I got IM before Daz picked it up,but I guess it's the same (version1.1). I got that same error, the first time I installed it. What I did was to uninstall IM...used the XP system restore to go back to a time before the installation. I then installed IM WITHOUT the Visual Basics option and everything works just peachy. sandoppe ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 4:31 PM

I was considering purchasing the product, but also run XP Pro. There are some things that XP will simply not run and this may be one of them. It's also a bit disconcerting to hear that the creator is not supporting the program (post #3). It is unlikely that I will make the purchase now, even though the price is very good.

Thanks SWAMP Now my only problem would be to learn about this XP system restore :) I'm pretty new at XP and don't know much nor have I configured it to save any specific configurations so I don't know if I can pull it off. I still think there should have been some mention made in the readme as to who has to install the VisualBasic Runtime :(

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 4:57 PM

Kalypso, System Restore is very easy,as it has a wizard that walks you through it. It already has restore points for you....just remember that you are going back in time, and settings that you have made after the restore point (you are going back to you) may need to be redone......(why am I thinking Michal J Fox right now?). sandoppe, Actually I don't use IM very much. It's cool when it works, but as stated in another recent thread it sometimes corrupts files (too often for my taste). SWAMP

Actually I did just try System Restore! It was pretty easy and I went back a couple of days just to make sure (I installed IM today) But. . . . the same exact error message comes up again, I don't think I can take it any more, I'll just continue hand-editing all files, Edit Pad Lite is soooo much more hassle-free :)

Oops, was cross-posting there. Thanks SWAMP, it was painless LOL - I'm really nervous with anything having to do with the system files, I've managed to bungle things up in the past :) I feel much better now though - here I was thinking I'm going to be the only one missing out! Btw, mine is version 1.00, not 1.1 - think maybe DAZ got an older version?? Sandoppe, I was at a loss to explain his lack of interest in supporting the program as well. The fact that DAZ bought the rights to it does not also make them more knowledgeable in the workings of the program than its creator.

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 5:12 PM

Well System Restore is a little funny in that it changes somethings, but not others. Perhapes your Visual Basics was not restored back. But I don't think this is a "must have" utility.... sometimes the old ways are still the best.

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 5:18 PM

There is a update on DarkWhispers site that brings it up to version 1.1. Sorry but I would have thought what Daz is selling would have included updates.

SWAMP, I just checked and the Visual Basics stuff is still there, in Windows/system32 I extracted the VBRun.exe into another folder and compared all the files, yep I must have already installed it for MAT Pose Edit and who knows when that was, so I'm not doing another System Restore. I'm not wholly convinced that VB is the problem, I've got the Visual Basics on the Win98SE machine too and IM works there - go figure. Besides, I'm going to need them for MPE, which btw is a very cool app! Thanks for all the help :))

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 5:40 PM

Your welcome....wished I could have been more help. BTW..When I installed MPE,I wasn't asked to install any VB files.

Wow SWAMP, I don't know how to thank you!! Dark Whisper and DAZ should make you out a check for the support YOU provided for his product! I didn't even think to check on 3D Universe for an update especially after he had stated he's not supporting it anymore and that any questions we had should be addressed to DAZ. Well, I just installed the SR1 and it works!! I can't believe it, thank you for all the insight and help! Hmm, not sure if I was asked to install VB with MPE either, I just saw I had all those .exe's in the same folder with MPE on a backup cd along with comctl32 and comdlg32 and figured I had installed them :)

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 27 March 2004 at 6:05 PM

It works...that's great. Have fun,SWAMP

Migal ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 5:31 AM

Steve said he wouldn't support it anymore? But, I specifically remember, back when his renderosity products were purchased by DAZ, Steve said he would continue to support products people had purchased on renderosity.

elizabyte ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 5:43 AM

I bought Injection Magic when it was still Steve's. I wonder if I'll be able to get support from DAZ for it... ? bonni

Attached Link: http://www.3duniverse.co.za/updates.asp

As someone has said earlier there is an SR1.1 up at Steve's site to fix issues with international versions of Windows. http://www.3duniverse.co.za/updates.asp is the link to the updates page. This update came out in Aug 2003 i think. I just applied it and it is now version 1.1 not Vers 1.0

Dark_Whisper ( ) posted Sun, 28 March 2004 at 10:34 AM

Hi all, Because Daz has purchased the exclusive distribution rights to UTC, I will no longer be supporting it. The updates developed before I sold the program to Daz are still available on www.3duniverse.co.za. Daz should have included these updates in the program they are now selling though. When several people reported the #13 error, I presumed that Daz had left something out of their installer, as no one should receive this error with v1.1 installed. cheers, Steve

macelene ( ) posted Mon, 01 November 2004 at 12:14 PM

Well this is a total bummer. I've looked everywhere for any clue as to how to get IM to work. Even after getting the update, I still get the error 13. So I guess it was wasted money if I can only get it to work on some things, but never what I need it too. Not sure how long I've had it, I just recently got it to work on one thing and that was it. I know this post is old, but it's frusterating. Going back to figure it all out by hand. Macey

Macey, Im right there with you now.

macelene ( ) posted Fri, 17 December 2004 at 5:31 AM

Well I figured it out by hand thanks to Thorne :). But it would have been nice to not have to worry about doing it by hand. Takes a few minutes for the system to copy all that delta information :), but at least it is not the headache of trying to get a program to work that doesn't want to work.

Oh, Thorne if you are out there I could use your assitance too! L.

You know I just came across this post. I had the same problem for years! I was never able to figure out and after several emails to DAZ - they never responded. Really turned me off to DAZ actually.
