Subject: Convert A Prop To A Figure

Hi All, I have existing textured props that I want to use in Max. I am exporting them as OBJ files. When they come into max, all the pathing to maps is lost, even if I import the MTL file. I am using Poser 4 with Pro pack link to Max 3. I have noticed that if I import a figure using the propack, the scene materials at least have the names of the textures in them. My thought was if I could convert some of my complicated textured objects into figures, bring them into max via pro pack, I could extract then map names and paths from the pro pack material. Does anyone know how to convert props to figures? Thanks

Short answer: Hierarchy editor has button down at bottom of window called "create new figure". One of the gurus may have the long answer for you, depending on the details of your prop.

Thanks, I figured it out. Simply enter the Setup room, bring up the heierarchy window and drag all the props you want underneath a single prop. This will be the figures body. Then simply save it as pz3 file. Bring it into 3DSMax via the pro-pack plugin and there are all your textures with mangled map paths. This is exactly what I was looking for. The only thing better would have been if pro-pack actually got the pathing right. But that'll never happen. Thanks again, Enivob
