Subject: All my Free-Stuff is AWOL! (or missing, for you non-army types!)

Seems like all the files on Homestead went to the great cyber-wastebasket in the either, Homestead is looking at the problem, but in the meantime: If you bought Supermodel Vickie, (and I have the names!), and you want the hair update, email me at burtonj@bucks.edu and I'll email you back a link. If you want the Hollywood hair update, it is at Zygote, on the page for the hair. The rest of the stuff will be back in a day or two, at another site or whatever. I've put a note on my newer items (the thumbnail) but the older ones (strip hair, etc) don't work either, but they are all at the link inclosed. Sorry about all this!

Bill Bayard has kindly offered to host the SMV Hair update and the Spiral stair, I've changed the Free Stuff links, they are once again working. Everything else is either at my Fortunecity site or at Zygote, as I mentioned. Incidently, and somewhat off the subject, my first job when I got out of High School was in a welding shop, eventually I designed a series of spiral stairs of verious sizes, and the jigs and fixtures to build them. This was about 30 years ago, but building this stair in Max brought back some memories. One thing that I had forgotten is that 3/4 turn stairs put the bottom stair facing under the platform, so I revised this to be a full turn, 16 treads, which is why the floor-floor height is so high (about 12' - most houses are about 8' 10" or so), this was done so SMV could do a better job in the photo shoots, as this way she would come off facing the camera. Some other thing I remember is that you can get a 5' dia staircase (mine were all-in-one, only the upper platform was loose) through a 3' doorway, by screwing it through! Anyway, if you can see the upper deck, what looks best is an open deck with the stair platform jutting out, ot a "notched" deck with the platform in the corner. In either case the other 3/4 of the stairwell must be open, for headroom, and you will need the railing section I furnished (or something else) for the upper deck edge, else SMV or the Posette fall off! Now, that is everthing you need to know about spiral stairs!

Jim: I know you use MAX, Bryce and Poser and Photoshop. What other software do you use? Specifically I guess what I'm after is: Are all of you rendering in Bryce because of the render engine? If you have MAX why use Bryce? Or, if you have Lightwave, why use Bryce? Thanks for any input,

I have your Hollywood Hair set--will the new morphs for the SMV Hair update work on these?

Jim Burton ( ) posted Wed, 27 December 2000 at 11:40 AM

movida- Well, mostly I render in Bryce because I haven't gotten that far into Max yet, to tell the truth, plus I often use the terrain engine in Bryce. I pretty much use Max for modeling, Poser for fitting and Bryce for rendering, the only othert software I use a lot is Painter, plus the regular set of utilities, UV mapper, CR2 Editor, not to mention Wordpad! I started out modeling in Ray Dream Studio 5, and I can't say enough bad things about that program, I regulary lost hours of work when it started writing "bad" files, I've never lost anything in Max. There is a lot in Max I haven't gotten into yet, like Character Studio that I bought bundled with it. Something to do in my retirement! mikes- Sorry, no, the morphs only fit the SMV hair, but I hope you did get the set I did for the Hollywood hair a couple of weeks ago.

Did you manage to avoid scraping the doorway's finish?

bebop ( ) posted Wed, 27 December 2000 at 1:59 PM

This seems to be happening a lot at Homestead recently. I know of 4 people now who have sites at Homestead and all their imported files vanished. But only Poser sites as far as I am aware. Strange.

Yep, my homestead site is still up and it has no Poser content.

Jim, thanks for the information, I had tried RDS and couldn't force myself to like it-thought it was me, so I passed on Carrara (sp?). thanks again (for the info and the quality work)

Jim Burton ( ) posted Thu, 28 December 2000 at 3:23 PM

duanemoody- Yep! The fun part was when I went to measure for the stair, I had to guestimate the part on fitting it through the house. It (a 5' diameter stair) would fit through a 3' door, but it would not fit down a 4' wide hallway.
