Subject: How can I move down the arms of my model. Please read.

scracker ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 6:47 PM · edited Sun, 26 January 2025 at 1:29 AM

Hi, I'm a Poser newbie and I need help on this. As you all know, in Poser, everytime you load a model, for example, Victoria from the built-in gallery, that model is making a cross with her arms stretched. My question is how can I push her arms down to make it stay along her thighs? Please help.

nickedshield ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 7:07 PM

The arms are moved in sections by using the Twist, Front/Back, Up/Down, Side and Bend dials. These dials are going to be close to the bottowm of the dial stack.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

I usually set the right shoulder bend to 70 degrees and the left shoulder bend to -70 degrees for things like applying textures and such. This gives the figure a reasonably relaxed look. The arms stretched out does look rather freaky and it just seems more pleasing to put the arms down.

That was a good tip. Thanks:)

Then, the question is how can I bend the shoulders? Where can I do it? Thanks for your response.

Victoria doesn't come standard with Poser. What version do you have? You may wish to learn how to pose and dress the basic figures first. Different figures have different body parts depending upon how they are cut up and grouped.

I have Poser 5, and I just loaded built in figures. Do you have any links to tutorials on how to post and dress the basic figures? If you do, it's perfect.

When you say built in figures what exactly are you talking about. V3 is a figure from Daz and doesn't come built in to P5 so am confused about what you mean. SndCastie

Well, sorry for not being so clear. I mean I use the P4 Nude Woman and P4 Nude Man etc available from Poser.

SndCastie ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 11:32 PM

Ok sorry P5 has Judy and Don built in do you also have p4? You choose the part you want to move and use the dials to moved them up,down out or in. If you want to move the legs you need to make sure the IK (inverse Kenetics) is off first. You can take it off the figure by clicking on the figure menue at the top and scroll down to IK and uncheck the right and left legs. There are many free poses out there try searching here in the free section. I usally use them to start and then fine tune. Check out the tutorial sections here you should find a lot of help. Dr Geep has some great tutorials here for P5 . Good luck

This is actually basic stuff you can read in the manual. Best thing to do is crack open the manual and start playing. If you make a mistake start over, after all they are not real people, just pixels..lol Marque

scracker might be a bit confused about the terms involved with Poser? The P4 Nude Man (Dork) and P4 Nude Woman (Posette) are available in both Poser 4 & Poser 5.

If someone comes here with a question, you might want to answer them, rather than pushing them away and telling them to read the useless manual.

The easiest way to pose your characters is to use the Poses in the Pose Library. This composite screenshot should give you a general idea how to proceed.

The manual is not useless and I am not trying to push them away. There are basic instructions in the manual that will help them, if they just use premade poses they will not learn how to do it themselves. It may be the easiest but it's not always the best. Please don't jump on me and accuse me of trying to push someone away I am trying to encourage and help. And by saying Victoria from the built-in gallery, I have to wonder just how confused they are? Granted the P5 manual isn't the greatest in the world but the P4 manual does have a tutorial that sets up a hands on hip pose that would have been very beneficial in answering the question " How can I move down the arms of my model "
Before it is said " I don't have P4 so I don't have the manual" , it can be aquired at curiouslabs.com in a pdf format.
It doesn't have to be read in it's entirety, just by skimming through and looking at the illustrations sometimes can answer a very basic question.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

Sometimes I wonder if some of us are reading different Poser 4 & Poser 5 manuals?! Let's just figure someone comes here to ask a question, and should be able to reasonably expect to get an answer here. In my own opinion, it's best to show the newbies the easiest way to accomplish a goal first. Then they can have a chance to do things "the hard way." I've been at this for 5 years, and I still can't do a decent pose entirely from scratch.

nickedshield ( ) posted Sat, 08 January 2005 at 11:32 AM

I agree that answering the question the easiest way possible is good if it answers the question. And yes, Poser 5 can be intimedating to a first time user who has never seen the interface.

I must remember to remember what it was I had to remember.

This was the question " My question is how can I push her arms down to make it stay along her thighs? Please help. " How is telling them to use a preset pose supposed to help them accomplish this? Marque

Bobbie_Boucher ( ) posted Sat, 08 January 2005 at 12:09 PM

Ahem, if a preset pose does the job?!

That's enough.
