Well the way stuff like this was originaly designed was for say Bryce users. One person would start a scene with 1 or 2 objects or whatever. Then they would upload it somewhere or email it to the next person and that person would add something, etc, etc till there was a finished scene. I think something on the same lines that would work better is for one person to do a simple scene/theme file and anyone who wants to finish it can. That way we are not passing a 50 meg file around. GeorgeD
George, you're describing an "Exquisite Corpse" type project, where each person in succession adds to a scene or image; that is one "type" of team project, and is very easy to do... I think what crisodian is suggesting is that we set up either permanent, per-project, or temporary teams of people who CAN easily share files (I guess that would have to be one criterion?), and who will be able to work together, at least to some extent... I think this was brought up once, and then discarded when the person who brought it up really WAS after setting up an EC... :-)
Count me In, getting really bored out here, and Good News - I've located my poser CD, should get it back by Monday... Here's a though of this team thing... First We form a couple of teams within the Forum Members... but if you're on a team you MUST promise to do your work, if you can't commit don't join... Then we suggest Idea's for the scene/pic/whatever (e.g. Design a scene from Little Red Riding Hood, Design a scene that is within the theme of "The New Millenium" etc.) Thirdly each team member is assigned a job (e.g. You texture, you do the poser work, you design props, and you do the backround landscape/scene) and then we give a deadline for the whole project. The teams may assign a deadline for each part (e.g. by the 31st the poser work must be done so the landscaper can import the characters into the landscaping, and by the 4th the landscape must be done (with figures) so the texturer can get to work, etc.) as I said I'll do it... If anyone else wants to... What I suggested above is just rough draft we can fine tune it if there is high demand, but as I said this project requires commitment, and If you can't do it, don't. -Soup
One of my thoughts, originally, was that you could participate with a specific team for a specific challenege and then switch for the next one - The groups wouldn't be the same each challenge giving people the chance to work with the whole group of players. And as far as the challenge goes, I was really thinking more along the lines of smaller teams 2 or 3 people at most. I was thinking a simple as possible until we got a chance to see if this would even work out. For example: I'm on a team of 2 and the scenario is a sporting event. We've brain-stormed, emailed each other, ...whatever...and decided that what we are going to submit. We've been in contact with each other in one way or another and I've got to have my characters to my partner by the 20th if I expect my team-mate to be able to incorportate them into the set he or she has been working on to meet the deadline on the 30th. Or to follow my other line of thinking: I'm on a team of 2 and we've been challenged to design a set. Upon completion of the set, we turn around and then challenge either the original team who challenged us or another team who we want to challenge to create the characters and props. Once either one of the above team challenges was completed, you would be either assigned to a new team or swap partners with your challenger or whatever.... however we decide to make the whole team thing work... : ) Just some way to get a chance to work with all different types of artists and learn from the masters in the different areas. I'm really glad to see that there's an interest in this. I just hope we can work out all the details. :) ~K.~
{Or to follow my other line of thinking: I'm on a team of 2 and we've been challenged to design a set. Upon completion of the set, we turn around and then challenge either the original team who challenged us or another team who we want to challenge to create the characters and props. } That could make a very interesting twist on the "Triangle Challenge" - Person or Team A challenges Person or Team B to create a scene. Person or Team B challenges Person or Team C to populate said set. Person or Team C then sends the completed project back to Person or Team A for for post-render or adding props or whatever...
I have currently finished a script for a 30 minute sci-fi movie. I have a few people who will be helping me implement the idea, however I am in need of some more talent. The project will take a whole of six months and I will provide the script, character bios, synopsis and anything else that will be needed to complete the project. I am in need of anyone who has a passion to create a universe that all can enjoy. Please email me with any questions you may have to luv2animate@hotmail.com . Besides myself there are three individuals who will be working on it with me and We are beginning pre production the first weekend of January 2001. I would like all that are working on it with me to have at least read the script and understand what will be involved in the creation process. Thank You, Paul
Ok so far we've had 3 Ideas for a way to do this: 1. The "Exquisite Corpse" - One person would start a scene with 1 or 2 objects or whatever. Then they would upload it somewhere or email it to the next person and that person would add something, etc, etc till there was a finished scene. (GeorgeD's suggestion) 2. The "Team Play" - First We form a couple of teams within the Forum Members... but if you're on a team you MUST promise to do your work, if you can't commit don't join... The "Triangle Challenge" - Person or Team A challenges Person or Team B to create a scene. Person or Team B challenges Person or Team C to populate said set. Person or Team C then sends the completed project back to Person or Team A for for post-render or adding props or whatever... (CharlieBrown and Crisodian's Suggestion) Now all we have to do is choose which one to use and flesh it out... -Soup

Here's a thought for future challenges: What if we worked as teams on a challenge? Say someone who was really good at character modeling working with someone who was really good at, say, landscape design? Might be a good way for people to connect as well as to drum up some interest for those folks who feel (like I do ;) ) that our skills are lacking in one area but pretty strong in another. Might also be amusing if we flip-flopped that scenario - had the character modeler do the landscape and the landscape guru do the character. That way not only are we challenging ourselvs to better our skills, we have a resource to work with when we have questions. I don't know how this would all play out. I really hadn't worked out all the details. Maybe a challenge for several teams to design sets and populate them based on a theme? As an example maybe a christmas /winter scene: Everyone has the same basic theme with one team member responsible for the set design and one team member to populate it? Another suggestion might be challenging a team to design a set (or scenario maybe - a themed set with some kind of background story) and then challenging another team to populate it. That could spawn some pretty amazing creations, don't you think? As far as team creation goes, the only suggestion I have is that if you commit to being part of a team that you have to do your part. :) Other than that, I don't know how the teams would form. Maybe we could post that we want to be part of the team competition and then get assigned to a team? I'm thinking of new forum members, like myself, who have yet to really meet the other members of the community. Then after a while let teams form on their own? Suggestions? Just a thought. :) ~K.~
