Subject: finding co-ordinates for positioning props

bagoas ( ) posted Fri, 07 January 2005 at 1:18 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:49 PM

I assume this has been asked a hundred times before, but this forum is moving very fast and I can not find the answer in the manual. Question is: how can I find the actual co-ordinates of the centre of a body part, so that I can fit a prop to it by just hammering the coordinates. Reason: I made a nice golden ring prop and I want to put it around P5 Judy's right ring finger. (let's keep it romantic) B.

Joint Editor window. This is not always the geometric center since it is set by the creator of the figure for proper bending, scaling, and so on. And the Joint Center is usually at the end of the body part towards the parent, again, not at the true geometric center.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

For a ring on a finger, it's best to just use visual methods. Put it in place approximately; parent the ring to the joint; then move the finger to various positions and re-adjust the ring's scale and translations until it looks "good enough" at all bends.

There's a smart propped ring for Judy in the Poser 5 library so why go to the bother of doing it by hand [pardon the pun :-)]

Well, fixer, My Judy will not accept less than My ring, of course. Thanks for the tip. Koroyume and Ockham, thanks for the tip. I may dive into Python and build a general script for positioning, one day. B.

Try loading the smart-propped P5 Judy ring, click on the parameters palette, and then ctrl-c to copy the values. Delete the ring, load your ring, click the parameters palette and then ctrl-v to paste (hopefully!) the coordinates to your ring.
