Really sorry to hear that Rudy, it really sucks when the pets you get attached to and share your life with pass away. He's a really beautiful animal though, I can see he's got a really caring and loving master. :(

Awwww, sorry to hear that Rudy. We become so attached to our pets that they become family and thus, the heartbreak. Always difficult to part with our little friends. We understand and appreciate your sharing with us.

That sucks. All my little ones are down with the creeping crud. They all have really bad congestion trying to go to phneumonia. The trouble is they sit at the food together and sneeze on each other. Three of them had an eye swell shut. They've all been to the vet for antibiotic and a general vitamin. I'm giving them eyedrops and antibiotics. The trouble is I've had something since christmas and it's probably the same thing. I come home every day thinking," Will I find one dead today?" I hope that I will see some improvement but I'm not getting any better and they're so little. They start a coughing fit and I think, "Are they going to stop?" You put your hand on them like you could grab something. If you could reach in and grab the trouble out then they'd be all right. Waiting Sucks! Being helpless SUCKS!

Sorry to hear about this, Rudy :( It really hurts to lose the little friends we have. So as ICM said, vent on.

That is so heartbreaking. The little guys mean so much, and when you can't do anything it hurts so much worse. I know I would be lost without my little friends. My thoughts are with you, and with him.

Thanks for the understanding everybody, i cant tell you how much i appreciate it. Im sorry to hear about that Electroglyph. Im with you there, the waiting definitely sucks big time. And i hate the part where i have to make the decision to end their lifes when it becomes necessary, even though i know its the best for them. I would never bear to see them suffer. He seem to be fine now, but according to the doc, that will change quickly when the time comes. Im not lying if i say that i would gladely sacrifice all my 3d-knowledge if it would buy him another year. It would be well worth it.

This is sad news indeed,.......all you can do is make the best of whatever time you have left together. He's a very handsome pussycat and as drac has stated, has been much loved and well cared for. My deepest sympathies. TOM.

Thanx a lot. Its worth checking out. Although it sais something about increasing the pumping performance of the heart (if i read it correctly), and we would need the opposite. His heartrate is sometimes up around 250-300 bpm when it should be 110-130. I will definitely run it through a translator.

That sucks, man, sorry to hear about it. My cat, Sam, was really sick awhile back, and I thought he might die. He pulled through, but I was stressing about it. He's part of my family. No need to say "just a cat"!

Rudy,.......have you checked with your vet about using a drug called Toprol XL, now in limited vetrinary testing ? It's original use was for humans but there has been some evidence of effecacy in animals(dogs and horses, don't know about cats). It lowers the heart rate and in some cases BP also. As a matter of fact, I was put on this drug after my heart problems(I had a resting heart rate of 130bpm and BP of 150/95). In my case it has been quite successful, my HR is around 78 and BP is 110/80. Of course one drawback is the cost, it tends to be expensive. Anyhow,.......just a thought. Don't remember where I read about this,........might have been the Virginia Equine Center,.....not sure,.......lemme' see if I can find the resource for you and your vet.

I dont know if they have something like that drug here. Theres a milder form of this heart failure called HCM, which can be medicated, but unfortunatly he got RCM, which is more rare(typhical), and is supposed to be incurable according to the heart specialists that examined him. But ill take any link you can give. When it comes to these guys, i dont care much about the cost.

I had a cat, raised him from a scrawny sick five-week kitten and he just dissapeared from the window a year later. It was bad, but I think what you're going through is infinitely much worse. My heart is with you.

That's the reason this is a community of Brycers, rather than a forum about Bryce. I'm sorry about your kitty. I've lost two cats to similar heart problems. It's not nice thing to go through. Especially since they don't understand what's happening. This was some time ago. They come out with new treatments all the time. Hope lives eternal.

Wow, Rudy, I'm sorry to hear about that. And what a pretty cat. I know they mean so much to us. We recently went to Colorado to visit my parents for Christmas and left our three cats at the house in New Mexico. They were well taken care of and had plenty to eat and drink. But our youngest, an 18-month-old male black cat, died for no apparent reason. He just crawled up into the chair, laid down and passed away. We got home and my 10-year-old daughter found him. Our four kids cried their eyes out, and our first night home was spent burying and mourning. It's bad, but what was worse is that nobody seemed to care that we'd lost this precious part of our family. My mother-in-law just said, "well now you only have two cats, so that's more normal." !! Well, I'm here to tell you that I really feel for you. My whole family does. I think it's cool that you've already had so much heartfelt response to your venting, as you put it. We pray for people and their animals, so we'll add you and your buddy to our prayer list. John

Rudy i love people that care as much for their animals as they do their family. Other than the colour of your cat it reminds me of one i had, he was my boofhead(yes it was his name) i lost my little mate due to a Tiger snake bite a few years back. Rudy you vent has much as you like about this, if you ever get the chance you ask Ehlana(my girlfriend what her dog Cheeko is like) i swear he is human at times, even talks to me and shares a beer now and then with me :)

Aww Rudy. Please never feel you can't talk about your love for your pets. They offer so much in enriching our lives while only asking in return for your love and companionship, which you obviously have shown. I do hope something can be found to help your cat but please take consolation in knowing you have given your cat a loving and well cared for life. There are so many pets out there that never know one minute of tender care. Yours have and I'm sure they know the strength of your feelings toward them

Poor little critter. :( I'm so sorry Rochr. I know this must be ripping your heart out. I have a little four year old torti with arthritic hips. Even though she's in pain she still purrs and shakes her tail like crazy when I come home. I know there will come the time when I'll have to decide to put her down or let her pain grow. I can't stand thinking about it. Please try to focus on today. Share happiness with the little guy, not tears. Share the tears with us. Better yet, share some more pictures of him and the others! matrixmode there is something people use here in Australia for animals with arthritic pain. Its a liquid they add to the food or just give it to their dog or cat by putting it in a syringe ans squirting it down their throat. I'll find the name of it for you and let you know what it is. I believe it helps in relieving a lot of the pain they suffer.

Thanks CrazyDawg! I've been giving her baby aspirin and some stuff called "Cosequin". It's really helped alot. Eventually she will need surgery though. If I have to I'll sell my new truck to pay for it. Most people don't understand that. It's okay. This Cosequin I'm giving her is a capsule that I break open and sprinkle in her wet food. She loves it! Supposed to be great for us humans too. Would love to hear of that Aussie cure. Thanks for that!

anyone else interested or would like some medication to help relieve the arthretic pain your pet is suffering the name of the stuff i mentioned is called Syn-Flex. Go to the link and read up on it. Surprise, surprise it is something us mere humans can use as well :)

matrixmode, I have arthritus. I wear a magnetic bracelet, and it does seem to help. There is a company here in the UK that makes magnetic collars for dogs, and I think cats. May be worth checking to see if there is a similar thing available where you are. You can also get a gadget which attaches over the main water pipe and treats the water....apperently good for everybody in the house.

I'm really sorry, I've got two cats and we treat them like our kids. Chin up big guy!

Here is something you can also look at.
One of our little ones (of 8 cats & 3 dogs), Casey, our 7 year old poodle, has heart failure also. He was diagnosed in April with 1-2 months to live. Heart failure can cause two things, 1 is to fill the lungs full of fluid due to inefficient pumping and the other is to fill the body cavity. Casey was afflicted with the body cavity fill.
the doctor gave us the medicine DIGOXIN, I believe. this helps to improve the action of the heart. He also is on a medicine which helps to get rid of the fluid buildup through urination. this led to several problems of extreme thirst and extreme urination. We opted to keep him around us and comfortable. Peeing every 5 minutes can make that difficult. Well, 6-8 months past his due-date with heaven, he is still with us. the medicine helped immensely, and we take him to the vet about every 2-3 weeks to have him suctioned. They stick a needle in his stomach and drain all the liquid they can get. It is January now, and he is still with us, he is getting worse, due to his breathing and his heart giving out. He can't really control his urine so he changes diapers many times a day. I guess my advice would be to keep him with you and your family. Don't put him to sleep cause he is so much trouble, Bug your vet for any possible solution and just have faith and the belief that your Rudy wants to be around you as you want to be around him.

Our pets are familymembers that tends to look a bit different from ourselves. I really hope that it will work out well for your familymember in the end.

Mark, I really hope things work out for your little one as well. I can perfectly understand selling the car, because i would do the exact same thing, if it comes down to that. And youre absolutely right, best to deal with it day by day and make them as comfortable as possible. This guy is going to get spoiled with his favourite meatballs and lots of attention. Shavala, That sounds exactly like the heart failure hes got. Were going to pick up some medication today, and one of them is for the liquid in the lungs. Must say that your words have given me a little hope about the time we have left, but unfortunatly, eventually we must consider whats best, and if we want to put them through more medication and perhaps pain. One thing is for certain though, he can be as troublesome as he like. As long as hes not in pain or suffering, i wont be putting him to sleep, no matter what it costs me. Must also say, that i would never had consider posting something like this in any another forum. This place is unique, and thats thanks to you guys! Cant thank you enough!

Very sorry to hear about your cat. They are not animals - just members of the family with a bit more hair then the rest. We have 3 all from the same litter and the thought of one of them going to the vet for a booster has me panicing. Hope she is comfortable at least.

I'm very sorry to hear about this tough situation you are in Rochr. You are not taking up space. This is totally understandable. My pets are like my children as well. It is hard to lose them. They truely do become one of the family. Elsina... that is so sad... There is much truth in what you said about what a tiny animal can evoke in just a short time. There was a stray kitty that hung around our house. He really took a liking to us and we would let him in the house now and then. He had no problem making himself at home. About 7 months after he adopted us.... he was outside and all of a sudden he jumped up on the ledge outside our dining room window. He really startled me. But upon looking closer I noticed that he had blood coming from his mouth. I opened the window and brought him in the house and examined him. He was breathing short gasping breaths. Then I found it.... He had a hole in his chest. There was sand and small pebbles around his mouth and upper body... He had been run over by a car. We took him to the vet and the vet put him in the pet hospital and cared for him. He had a punctured lung on top of the other injuries. The vet didn't see a lot of hope for his survival but said that she would do what she could. He had 2 surgeries and was in the hospital for about 2 1/2 weeks. The vet had to drain fluid off his lungs during this time. Finally he was released from the hospital. His condition was delicate but he was going to survive. He now lives with us indoors and faithfully loves us. We love him back. Our pets can really have a very big impact in our lives.... an impact that you would never expect.

Swade, Im really glad to hear about one life that got saved. It brings some joy amongs the rest of the bad news. And im extremely glad to see so many people caring this much about their little friends.

My heart broke a couple of years ago when my little pal died of a heart attack. One minute he was bounding about as usual the next he just keeled over on the floor. I know the grief this brings and my heart and thoughts are with you Rudy and Elsina, at this very sad time. Catlin

Thank you all for your kind support. I still can't believe it, that he won't be back, keep imagining I hear him outside, in front of the door, trying to get inside, his little bell.... Swade, I got this cat when he was only 2 weeks old, abandoned on the street (stray family). I fed him with a bottle during the first days and I wasn't sure he was going to make it. Had him at the vet also, vaccinated etc. And he DID make it. Only to die this young after 4 months from some freak accident or violence by someone. I don't even know what happened. Anyway, thanks guys. I really appreciate it.
