Subject: Radiance Pro Lights...won't delete

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 9:48 AM · edited Sun, 05 January 2025 at 7:44 AM

I've been using this light set since it first came out, but have been having a problem deleting them using the python script. Some of the lights will delete, then it stops... I've been able to finally get them to delete by some technique that is unrepeatable...using the script multiple times, rendering, adding new lights, etc etc..some times it deletes others not. Any idea as to how to delete these?

I have the same problem. I can't even use the last light in the set for some reason. I hope someone has an answer.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 11:34 AM

I also have a problem with em, and their is lots to delete one by one. Most of the time, when you use a Script to delete it will crash your poser. When you select another type of lights, the others stay behind (Ghost), interupting the other lights. Building up.

Glad I saw this post! I just bought the lights last night, so at least I know what will happen when I use them!

you guys should email or IM danae. It's only fair that danae be informed, and only fair that the product should work properly. danae has responded to my communications with curtesy in the past. ::::: Opera :::::

These are excellent lights and I use them all the time. Most of the time they seem to work just fine, pokeydots, but every once in awhile I have a problem with them and using the python script for deleting the lights just doesn't seem to work. I think you'll really like them though even with that teensy little problem :) Highly recommended.

no doubt as to the quality. I will say, I did email awile back and did not get a response. I'll IM her

I knew you weren't complaining, pokeydots '-) I just thought you'd like to know that it's worth the gnashing of teeth every once in awhile because the light set is really awesome.

SWAMP ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 5:10 PM

I've had a problem only with the last lights in the set that the "delete lights" script won't work with. But to be fair I also have one light set that came with a hair prop (!!! Real) that won't respond to the script either. Both of these have a zillion lights, so perhaps it's the script pooping out when it reaches a certain number of lights to deal with (and not the lights at fault). Ockham would know better about this. Thank you for bringing this up.
Ive been trying to figure out where the problem is but since I have no knowledge on Python scripting, it is very hard to come to any actual conclusions.
The only way was to seek a true experts advise, so Ive contacted Ockham asking for some help and he courteously agreed to look into the light set and see if he can spot anything.
Hope well be able to provide a solution soon :o)

When you isolate which light or lights won't delete, check the shadow map size against the set default limits for the light(s). I had a case where a light wouldn't delete (not danae's set) and the shadow map was set at 1200, but the maximum in the default setting was 1000. Changed the size downwards and it became deletable (hope that's a real word).

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 7:27 PM

i just checked one set...and 1 light in there..the map size is 1200 and the max res is 1024 in the render options. Is this what you're talking about? the only prob, if this is what you're talking about, some of these sets have gobloads of lights. it would take a week to change all the maps size entries...or i suppose it would be easier to increase the max texture size? Now, what is that for actually? I always use textures larger than 1024 resolution...skin textures are 3000 and up...a lot of the cyxlorama type textures are 1600x1200...so i must be looking at the wrong numbers

Dave-So,Why not use ockham's global light panel script? You can change the map sizes for all of the lights at once.

Dave-So ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 7:38 PM

really ??? I need to get that...is it at rendo?

Yes,in FreeStuff just do a search for "ockham".

SamTherapy ( ) posted Sat, 22 January 2005 at 8:35 PM

I highly recommend ockham's Light Panel, too. It's absolutely essential for dealing with lots of lights and even on small sets it makes things a whole hell of a lot easier.

Just for an update, I've been talking with Danae via IM. Think we've found the problem, and it's solvable. More later......

Ockham has been so helful with this! He located the problem which has to do with some ShadowCams. Now that the problem is found the solution is near. Some kind of fix or an updated product will be available soon, so you'll be able to use your Python scripts succesfully.

Dave-So wrote "i just checked one set...and 1 light in there..the map size is 1200 and the max res is 1024 in the render options. Is this what you're talking about?"

No. If you select one light using the 'parts' menu at the bottom of the screen, the Parameters tab for that light shows a 'Map Size' entry in P5 (Shadow Map in P4). If you click the dial, it gives you the Min/Max settings for that specific light. I spotted it when exporting a PZ3 out of P4 and importing into P5. One light appeared dead-centre set at 100% pure white light, and it couldn't be selected or deleted. This may be the 'ghost light' effect referred to by Robo2010 above. Anyway, working back, I found that the light involved had a shadow map set larger than its maximum limit. And we all know how P5 gets its knickers in a twist over stuff like that. Though I'm not sure if that's the problem ockham and danae have found. But if danae created the lights in P4, then it could be a factor. Ah. danae can type quicker than I can .. cross-post.

Incidentally, I looked first at Moochie's map size, because that does seem like a good candidate for this sort of problem. Tried changing the high numbers in the file back to 256, but that wasn't it.
