Hey, I just went over there, and Darlisa, one of the cool people of all time, suggested the file names, including dot and extension, may not be over 32 characters or Bryce will crash. Some of my texture maps were, in fact, too long, so I changed all the names, reloaded each image on an object by object basis, and voila! ... It still crashes. Can you believe it? Same error. No change. AAAAAAarrrgh. This is weird, because I've never had it happen before that I can recall, and I've had MUCH bigger scenes, much more bizarre collections of textures and flat-out near-corrupt .objs, and Bryce has liked them all. Then here's this one that just won't save at all.
I had exactly the same problem a while back. Could render, save the image, but not save the BR5. It was my picture of the traction engine outside it's factory. I had imported Wings files too (but 3ds rather than obj). I never did work it out, so all I have is the final image.

I'm getting this same error, just started a couple of days ago with my recent image I just uploaded. I had to save this picture like 3 times all under different names. I've never had this error before in all the years I have used Bryce, until now. The only thing I did different was I updated Windows XP to sp2. I'm gonna try and re-install Bryce, but otherwise I'm stumped.
No, unfortunately, I don't think it's Wingss fault. The model was created in Wings, sent piece by piece to UVMapper, re-assembled in Rhino and exported as a whole to .obj via Rhino, a process I've done many times without problems. Actually, the Wings .objs always seem to be a little cleaner than the Rhino-generated ones. I have a feeling that, if I'd gone direct from Wings to UV Mapper and not to Rhino then it may have been cleaner meshes, but re-assembling various parts in Bryce is a royal pain. They're odd sizes and I can't get them back together seamlessly. Rhino imports all .objs the same size as they were originally and they are put back together after mapping without seams. Aldaron, thanks for that bit of info., but, unfortunately, these are about 1024 on the largest side. I'm thinking, though, that this seems to be an .obj problem.
This is something I am going to file away in my memory for later. Good advice. Worth a try. This model, though, already is smooth. I'd have to figure out how to modify it and try all over. I just want to say how appreciative I am that you guys would try to help me get to the bottom of this. And it sounds like I'm not all alone either, so that actually makes me feel a bit better. I'm going to keep working on it.
