Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 12 11:30 pm)
when you install the 4.03 update it gives a list in the accept agreement section and it shows what parts of the program was enhanced or corrected, mostly it seems some fine tuning was done,,with the crap job metacreations has done and the pathetic way they just dumped on us all, it would be safer to update to the curious labs version, at least they support and seem like a great company...
I think 4.0.3 addresses a lot of small problems, only big difference I've seen is they fixed some kind of bug that had caused finger offsets in previous versions, at least in Vickie. Because of this, if you use Michael in previous versions the fingers are offset, if you use Vickie in 4.0.3 they are offset the other way - unless you use my "corrected" CR2 for Vickie, as Zygote compensated for the problem with Vickie, but not with Michael. Supermodel Vickie, Saluda as well as Michael and probably others also require 4.0.3 for this reason. I'll have to get the corrected CR2 back up, all my Freestuff items went away when Homestead deleted all the files, but I have a new location.
Uhm Ghost Effects is the creator of Poser, Metacreations marketed it but Ghost Effects was always providing updates directly to us and through Metacreations. Ghost Effects is now Join/associated with Curious Labs. If you bitch about MetaCreations Poser, your bitching at Ghost Effects as Meta never actually did anything to the program itself. It was all done by Ghost Effects and still is. JanP
After all this time, I would be happy, no I mean surprized, to see ANY update out of Curious Labs, buggy or not. I have updated to 4.0.3 and am satisfied with the performance, but I am starting to doubt that Curious Labs has the talent and/or resources to support Poser. It has been almost a year since they took Poser and to date we have gotten some MINOR bug fixes. We keep hearing about the ProPack and Poser 5, but I have given up on waiting for either. There have been greater advancements to Poser from the community then we have seen from Curious Labs. (I am talking things like transmapped hair/lashes, genitals, news meshes, and morphs.) I have decided to just keep enjoying Poser 4.0.3 (my favorite program) and forget about an update.
Ghost effects did an incredible job with poser I love it...but, if you want to talk 3d lets look at this, poser would be perfect if: 1 it used ray tracing as an option 2 mesh could be edited directly 3 improved mapping (like Live video) basicly a combination of truespace 4 and poser would be incredible with mimic thrown in for audio..... these are some things I have yet to see, except through other plugins and they are soooo important... knight

And I still say that it would help if the source form of Poser was on public access like the Gnu software is (see attached link or http://www.delorie.com ), or on limited public access like the source form of the JPG graphics handling software is (see the email group jpeg-l@ijg.org ), so that "many hands could make light work" of finding bugs and writing improvements etc.Sure it would be nice to have raytracing and directly editable meshes but that was not what made Poser, POSER. Poser is what it is because it can render really nice scenes with shadows, faster than current 3d object creation/Animation progs. Or, at least it WAS faster. I don't want direct mesh editing as that will drive the cost of the software up and I already own a 3D editing prog. JanP
For those of us that do a lot of comercial and non comercial 3d, poser is so close to being the all around tool,as for driving up the price for editing , truespace is very affordable and ray tracing is a must for high end work, when you do closeups and serious scene work , shadow maps just dont do it.Poser can be the best program out there, affordable( even at say,500.00) when you consider that studiomax is up in the 10,000 dollar range. you do need to be able to edit and animate on the fly, this is a must in complicated scenes....poser has made its place as a serious 3d charactor tool, I like it better than studiomax charactor studio,... knight

I can make a smart character like you have smart props, but when I try to delete a smart character, froom the posing stage, my Poser 4.0.2 jams. I complained to tech@curiouslabs.com about this bug. They answered: "Use Poser 4.03 from us 4.02 was Metacreations attemp at pacifying the public and it is not as complete as 4.03 it will not address the many import issues.". What are the differences between Poser 4.0.2 and Poser 4.0.3? I thought that the only difference was that Poser 4.0.3 had that annoying bit of spyware in it.
