Subject: Paypal ?? (OT)

mathman ( ) posted Sat, 29 January 2005 at 9:09 PM · edited Wed, 25 December 2024 at 2:25 PM

Hi all, I have just purchased a set of Poser textures from a 3rd party site which insisted that I go through PayPal to make the payment. I logged in to PayPal to make the payment via Credit Card (after a lot of stuffing around - its got to be the most unfriendly customer site in the world), it finally took my payment but I have not received any EMail confirmation either from PayPal or from the merchant. As I am not used to ordering thru' PayPal (although I have done it before as I have a login), can someone tell me what are the ropes, i.e. when and how can I download my Poser product etc. ?? Thanks in advance. regards, Andrew

But the Paypal payment does show up in your Paypal account? I am just asking this because at a certain point of time during the payment process, you get to a site which looks as if a payment has been made, but the bottom right side has a button "Make payment" (or so), which you still have to click before the payment is done. So... if the payment does not show up in your history, then you can safely assume that you did not make the payment because you simply did not see the button on that particular payment page ;-) Best wishes, Sabine

Thanks Sabine, I think you are right. I took a copy of the page that I thought was the confirmation page. I now notice that the title of the page says "PayPal Website Payments - Confirm your payment". However, in the middle of the page, it says "$19.80 AUD from MasterCard XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX - This credit card transaction will appear on your bill as "CLOUDLANDCA"." This is what has made me think that the payment had already gone through. At the bottom, the "Pay" button is still active, but I didn't want to press this just in case it would deduct twice from my card. regards, Andrew

Beware: "Paypay" is not 100 percent liget. I've heard too many horror stories about that company.

paypal is totally legit. You just have to follow their TOS like every other online membership site.

They may be legit, but they are not user-friendly. After almost endless buggerizing around, it finally got me as far as the payment screen. I am now in a position where I don't know whether I have purchased this product or not. After having checked my Paypal account, and seeing nothing there, I concluded that the payment didn't go through. I tried to pay again but this time it told me that I had already paid it, and it redirected me to CloudlandCastle, the storefront (!!!). I have had no EMail correspondence from them whatsoever. I have been in touch with the merchant to see whether or not she has received any correspondence or payment from them. regards, Andrew

I've used paypal a little, more than a dozen less than two. They do have a phone number you can call, it has been helpful for me. I've never paid via credit card, always withdrew funds from my bank account. That took about three business days to process. I've recieved payments by card, and they are instantaneous. If you have a question though, call them.

I've used Paypal and have had no problems in 3 years. I set up Paypal accounts for my web design clients and not one of them have had issues of fraud or otherwise. Always always always make your inquiries with the person or company you are doing business with. Paypal can't be held responsible for companies that use it to make fraudulent claims or transactions. I've used both as payments thru Paypal- my credit card and my checking account. You always will receive a confirmation from Paypal that you've made a purchase. AND the company you purchased from should (i said should) be responsible and send notification they received your payment. I'd inquire from the source you attempted to purchase from first before calling Paypal. OR your credit card - since your bank would know first hand what's going on. Hope it all works out, Andrew. ~ Moe

Thanks, Moe. PayPal has always made me a bit nervous, but your words give me some reassurance. I've since tried again, this time it went through without any problems - however I'll be keeping an eye on my credit card transactions over the next few days. regards, Andrew

I've made dozens of payments with PayPal, and have had money sent to my PayPal account. It's always been hassle-free, but I'm in the US. My account is "verified", and it pays money market rates on unused money 9better than my bank). I always make sure that I've transferred enough into it a couple days before going shopping. Much of my Christmas shopping was done on eBay. Payment was fast, even with foreign currency conversions, although I had to wait for a couple of slow shippers. Online purchases have been quite fast from the brokerages (which are 24-hour automated) and from folks like PhilC (who keeps an eye on his email). Receipts are usually delivered within minutes. Other small businesses, you'll have to check their time zones... and how often they check their mail. Carolly

No problems with Paypal here, though since I'm in Europe it does come under European banking and privacy laws, for which they had to set up a distinct operation. Mathman, that piece about how the charge will appear on your bill: it's pretty routine, and is for information. It doesn't mean the payment has been confirmed or anything. Taking a printout of the page is a sensible precaution. I don't know where you are, but it sounds as though the payment is being processed from Australia -- timezone differences tend to be significant, as Carolly suggested.

Yep, used Paypal [europe] many times for both sending and receiving money, never had any issues with it. It's sometimes easier than tossing around with credit cards all the time. Watch out for their "cut" though. If you're charging for your services be sure to add their cut to the bill [around 5% I think]. Cheers!

I also use Paypal to accept direct purchases from the Netherworks Studios site. Honestly, it's the most flexible (considering the number of countries it covers worldwide) and cost effective solution that I've found thus far. As far as getting your downloads and so forth... that all depends on how that website has its store set up and Paypal only functions as a front-end (to the best of my knowledge) for that. For example, at Netherworks, we use Paypal's cart function so that you can convieniently shop and the purchases show up in a separate window.

I have had no problems with PayPal.

zippyozzy ( ) posted Sun, 30 January 2005 at 11:37 PM

I have had no EMail correspondence from them whatsoever. That's what I meant by not 100 percent legit. They have no site support. I would not do business with a company that has zero site support for it's customers. (MHO)

From PayPal? That's very odd; that hasn't been my experience from them at all. More often, the people I was trying to order something from (RuntimeDNA, Renderosity, etc.) have been the ones who have had the issue. Have you contacted the third party site for assistance?Have you contacted Paypal for a refund? Guy
