Subject: New Vue user

Hi, I've been a Poser 5 user for some time and I've now bought Vue4 as it was on special offer. Instead of me trying to find how, can any one tell me how I import a Poser 5 figure into Vue. Many thanx in advance.

I believe it's object/import.

"I believe it's object/import. " and open just the pz3 file! If you want to import a Poser animation you will need Mover 5 as an addition. Because of dynamic effects (hair and clothes) are treated as animations in Poser 5 you will have to have Mover 5 to import files with those effects into Vue as well. An option for stills is to export the stuff from Poser as obj (for example) and import that into Vue 4.

I forgot. The first time Vue 4 will ask for the Poser 5 exe and Poser must be closed when you import stuff into Vue 4. I think. This was a very popular bug/question a while ago.

I believe that the bug requiring Poser to be closed has been fixed. At any rate I load the pz3 file with the same figure in poser with both running and as I build and pose the figure I check it in Vue. If you make a change in Poser and save it and then switch to Vue it will notice the change and ask if you want to reload it say yes and it will go into the same location as before. This process makes it far easier to get what you want. In fact it is one of the best things about the Vue/Poser relationship.

Thanx guys, one more thing, does it take the light settings over as well or do you have to do that within Vue? Sorry to be a pain but I just bought it!

The light settings are not brought over - only the "geometry" information (incl. texturing etc). BTW, the automatic update of modified pz3 (and other imported formats) is a Pro feature. Not available in Vue d'Esprit 4 or Vue 5 Esprit. What you should check always as well when you import Poser characters is highlight color and size. Poser does treat them a little strange (black highlight color, very big size). If you change those settings (material by material i am afraid of) the things will look better in Vue - in my eyes of course.

I just purchased the Vue5,Poser5,and Mover5 power bundle. I too have problems importing Poser .obj, 3d Studio,Lightwave and Wavefront.OBJ figures into VUE. I get messages that the Vue 5 program can't find skin, clothing etc in VUE 5 directory. I have to manually search the location of each file within Poser and can finally get everything except hair. PZ3 imports are not a problem. I'm sorry if I'm infringing on a thread (a newbie). Plutom

Plutom, you don't need to import the Poser models as obj. You can import them directly as a pz3, which is the file you save out from Poser. The pz3 will have the materials written right in it so you don't have to go looking for them. The first time you do an import of a pz3, Vue will ask you for the Poser exe file...just browse to it. Then you should be fine.

When you read the mtl-file (where the texture information is held) you will see that Poser does not write the full bitmap pathnames (I hope i am still right). Only parts of it. Therefore it is a little difficult for other programs to know where the bitmaps are located. That may be the problem you have. What the DAZ Studio to Bryce import plugin do therefore is automatically copy all bitmaps to the same folder as the obj-file. This normally solves the problem.

Yep, I think I'll stick with .PZ3 files since I can import flawlessly import them into VUE without any hassle. Just wanted to know if there was a quick and dirty on importing .obj etc files into VUE. From your replies, I don't think there is any. Plutom
