Have you tried painting it and sticking that on a 2d pic?

This started out as Bryce volumetric, but I smeared it in post .I would think you might have good results by changing the color of clay's volumentric fire to grays, then adjust the settings until you get something decent. I've also used the native bryce mat "psygem" (i think that's the name) in the density channel as a volumentric. The trick is setting it to 1d in the deep texture lab, and lowering the quality in the mat lab. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
If you use Basic triangle in the DTE change it to a volumetric. Then in the DTE change all 3 components to alphas change color mode in 1 to multiply and color mode in 3 to blend and randomize you can get some very interesting smoke effect. I hope that made since. :-) Bah Just experiment with Basic Triangle you'll figure it out :-)

Anyone know of any tutorials or methods for creating smoke? I want something that looks like thin coiling wisps of cigarette smoke. I'm going to try a few different things, but thought I'd ask anyway.
